Flags

Watching Arcade Fire and Kaiser Chiefs on TV and is it me or are there fewer flags in front of the stages this year? I know John Peel doesn't suffer as much as the pyramid but both seem to be much more visible from the low cameras behind the crowd.

Yes, I was just about to start a new thread "Where Have All The Flags Gone".

I have always been a big supporter of the flags and feel a bit sad to see so few. Does anyone know if there is any specific reason, hard to see why it would just suddenly happen when for the last few years they seem to be increasing.

(Here we go, wait for the flag haters)

Definitely seemed to be fewer flags in front of the Pyramid last night. We were in roughly the same place we were in for U2 in 2011 - and back then, all we could see were flags with a brightly lit stage behind them. Last night, sight-lines were, pretty much, uninterrupted. A vast and welcome improvement.

Blimey, watching Kodaline (on TV), it's raining and there are lots of people with UMBRELLAS, I love flags but would not be happy in crowd with UMBRELLAS.

I cannot understand how anyone would think it acceptable to open an UMBRELLA in crowd, apart from blocking the view it also means all the water drips onto the adjacent people.

What a terrible post!

The flags are a great sight!! It's one of the aspects that really sets the Festival apart...Imagine the sight for the bands getting on stage, the sheer colour and chaos.

It's the thing that tells Mick Jagger/Jay-Z etc. that this isn't another stadium rock gig, it's Glastonbury, something different, something special..

I hope the lack of flags has been down to the weather, and that this fine tradition keeps pace. Get going people, represent!

What tells the artist it's somewhere special is the audience response - not that twat Michael mollesto with his advert held up in front of the pyramid all day

Those who think the flags make the place special never went before when front stage crowds were almost entirely people who wanted to be there, not to be seen

    • I don’t believe I’m one of the aforementioned ladies but if I may, I have a scale I developed that may be of interest in deciding whether you should pursue them?   THE [REDACTED] SCALE: 10- physical perfection so impossible by definition 9- highest mark possible. Very few in the world. Margot Robbie is one example ( in wolf of Wall Street particularly) 8- literally the best looking birds you will see in real life walking around. As I said you won't see that many. Maybe a few in a day walking round Chichester for 24 hours  7- this is as I have already said a very very good mark and means the bird is fit and a head turner. But you see more of them than the 8's.  6- very decent Mark. If you got 60% in an exam you would be pretty chuffed yes?!...think of it that way.  5- this is the average score. The bang average for a bird. So they are not hideous and they are not really that fit. Probably your bread and butter on a night out.  4- starting to get ropey here. On an evening out you would probably consider planting one up them with a few lagers down ya. I have smashed a few 4's in my time. We all have.  3- this is ropey. Either fat, or ugly. Not both.  2- fat and ugly. A f**king disgrace that you would be well embarrassed about.  1- absolutely rancid and the worst mark at all possible. I have rarely seen anyone pull a 1/10 genuinely apart from one of my mates Faz who pulled a r*****, another mate who pulled a dwarf and another mate who pulled an ugly bird so fat he 'could not get his arms round her' and 'something came off her nipple in his mouth' when he was sucking her tits' 0- physically impossible.
    • Hello. I was hoping this fine community could help me with an inquiry.   I had the most magical afternoon in 2025 dancing to my favourite artist, Rizzle Kicks, with two vibrant ladies and a dashing man. The girls had lathered up with what looked like extra suncream while he was wearing a distinctive piece of hatwear.   We were thick as thieves and had a jack ball, before retiring to a nearby refreshment stand to munch some sushi.   Sadly, I'd had a shandy and did not get any of their names or numbers. Foolish! Chalk it up to that classic Glasto spirit, a bauble of which lives within me very tightly all year long.   But fortunate strikes when you least it expect it... while browsing the ol' twitter, I came across a photo of what certainly looked like it might have been them. I shall attach below. My memory is a little hazy so I can't be sure.   Does anyone know who they are? And if so, how I can in touch with them?
    • Happy to report there are still some really good people in the world. I went to 'in conversation' talks with Maxine Peake and Chris Packham today. Two fine examples of humanity.
    • More performance than gig, but The Eccentronic Research Council with Maxine Peake was quite the experience. Readings of peoples dream narratives over electronic beats and bleeps, and a bit of Shelley to finish.
