My first year

Not sure if this is obvious or not.. Walk up to the highest point above the Park/tipi field. Don't turn around until you get to the top. It's nice to do that around sunrise or sunset, lots of people around then and I've found myself part of a massive round of applause when I've been there at sunset before!

I really recommend some time in the circus field as well, you can lose a whole afternoon watching the acts in there!

Also if you venture in to Green Futures then you'll find my astronomy tutor. She has a solar telescope set up during the day so you can look at the sun which is really cool. She sets up normal scopes at night but I've never made it there so not sure what she'd show you, depends what's visible at that time of year and the time of night. I would hazard a guess at Saturn being the main focal point.

Have an amazing time. You'll be hooked by the time you go home. :)

The fact you're planning to wander is the best thing. Some people stick around the main stages and miss a lot of what makes Glastonbury.

Like someone else suggested you should go up to the viewing area above the ribbon tower. Or up the tower itself.

Also go and find the dragon near the stone circle, the subterranean piano bar, the tunnel between Greenpeace and the healing fields, the permaculture gardens, etc.

Poke around and have fun.

The tipi field is always nice to have a wander through.

And if possible I would suggest being in the green fields and healing areas one night just as it is starting to get dark , always seems a magical place when the lanterns come on and the tea lights are lit.

Walk, walk, walk. Take comfortable shoes/boots (not wellies). I also carry a camping chair with me on my bimbles because sometimes it's just wonderful to stop, sit, relax and watch the world go by.

Just do what you want to do, if thats sitting in a chair at the back of the Pyramid field then fine, if its contemplating your navel in the poetry tent then fine, if its standing on top of the stone circle singing your heart out then fine. Just keep smiling!

Are you going with other people who have been before or is your whole group newbies? I'd suggest having a good bimble around the site on Wednesday and Thursday. Don't set too many must do's but I'd suggest some time over the weekend make sure you see a cabaret or circus act just so you get a feel for the diversity of the festival.

As others have said have a good wander around, try your hand at some of the craft tents in the Green Fields area and talk to people you meet as you go most don't bite and it's not like the tube in London where no one meets your eye or talks to you. Go with the flow and don't get het up if you don't get to somewhere bang on time.
