Dry ice

Has anyone used dry ice before. Thinking of getting 10kg of it on the Tuesday evening. This will sublime( disappear) in about 48 hours. Im hiping it should delay the start of my iceblocks melting in my cooler by 48 hours as it will keep the normal ice temp down to -70 or sumet. Well below its melting point anyway. We had a good cooler and about 5 washing up bowl blocks of ice ans about 6 ice cube bags before. It all lasted till last day. But im hoping if i use dry ice i can take less normal ice. Itl set me back about £50, but worth it for crisp cold beers and a full english every morning. Anyone used it? Any tips? Any problems with security getting it in? Thanks

It sounds like a pretty dumb thing to do to me.

Dry ice is frozen Carbon Dioxide, the very warmest it will be is -78C. There are COSHH guidelines on the use of dry ice and they preclude the use of it in a public area. Save the £50 and use it to buy cold beer on site, the price differential between a can of beer and á cold beer bought on site should mean you could buy erm about ten to fifteen beers for the £50.

Should the dry ice sublimate into a poorly ventilated tent you could wake up very dead.

Don't do it.

Oh and here's a link to the COSHH guidelines on safe Dry Ice use

we drink about 30 beers a day. everyday lol. Then we have a full english every morning then burgers for tea. So need that chilled. I read up on the carbon dioxide allready. And COSSH gets drummed into us every at work. Good advice, but will take the risk as it the amount will be small and it will be out side tent while we are there. Plus it will be getting open and shut alot so will spread the amount of exposure. And its a massive tent. But get where your coming from. If only helium was the by product now that would be a laugh in a morning.

From what I remember you can buy ice there and dry ice can be incredibly dangerous. That's why it's not even used for stage FX much anymore. Just keep the beers under the corners of tents, you'll wake up and they'll be pretty chilled.

I love the 'yeah, yeah' we have COSHH drummed into us at work every day at work' attitude.

I don't think i've ever flamed someone on here, but; how fucking gormless.

We do too, to the nth degree...for a good fucking reason.

So you're gonna leave it outside your tent when you're there? For some innocently pissed person to trip over in a packed campsite?

If only you'd tweeted this, i could send it to Glastofacepalm.

Long story leaving it there. Short story it was a beast. Something like 170QT marine spec Iglo or coleman. And as it was Sunday night we thought wed take it to the pyramid stage as we was going to spend 3 or 4 acts there in a row. So it was a right trek carrying it from Woodies to the Pyramid full of ice and about 100 cans left. Anyway we got hammered and wanted to carrying on to the after hours areas. Ill left it with the lads and basically they were in no fit state to bring it back.

The ice lasted last time. But we had loads of ice blocks( very heavy) we froze meats in ice blocks and stopped at a supermarket about 1 hour outside glasto and topped up with baga of ice. I hoping for a smaller cooler this time maybe 100qt and to put less ice in

You quite clearly have no idea how busy a festival site is during the get out. People really haven't the time to start wombling about for a charity collection. It is just another bit of rubbish to be sorted. You seem to have a bit of a short sighted view of the world.
