Isn't music also something to do with age? Certain bands or songs will take you back to key times in your life or places where you first encountered that music.

I fell in love with this when I first went to France on a school exchange when I was 14. It was a life changing month for me. I discovered France, girls, wine, cigarettes and got away from my mum for a month.

I can't hold it up or claim it to be great music but it will always be a bit special to me because of the memories of that time of my life.

It just seems strange that you admit to not liking 'difficult' music a couple of pages back, but like low, the second half of which is entirely atmospheric instrumental.

It just doesn't add up.

well, go to sleep, wake up in the morning, and it all makes sense. "Tom Waits and The Who aren't even in the discussion."

Yeah, i've always thought that. The age range when you are most open to devouring new things with extreme passion is 15-21, maybe even narrower. Out of interest, who is the band that means most to people and how old were you when you got into them? Not 'who is the greatest band ever?', but the one in your heart.

Mine is obviously Oasis, i was 16 when they hit me between the eyes. A friend at work says U2, he was 15. Another says Kraftwerk, in 75 he was about 15. Is this common?

Anyway, let's see. Tom Waits and The Who aren't even in the discussion. The Smiths are out due to the appalling quality of the production on a lot of their stuff, casual fan though i am. I like Neil Young, and have recently started to delve deep into his stuff, but he's a no too.

I'm not a big fan of The Stones albums, Sticky Fingers aside, and think they are a singles band.

For me, Libertines. Not the greatest band by any stretch - but they were hugely formative to my yoof growing up in London. Was 14 when second album came out and it opened my eyes massively...hair grew long, jeans became skinnier, leather jackets were adorned and became a lot more open to people etc.

So yeah, not in the league of the greats, but a band I'll always hold close.

there was lots of music I liked when I was 15 that I don't listen to any more. It's sometimes referred to as growing up.

Do you have a crack pipe constantly on the go beside your keyboard?

yeah that's how most people are I reckon. They have a band they associate with their youth and that band will forever be special to them.

what most people dont do, is then go on to claim that band is "the best band since the beatles", which is what this fellow has done with regards to oasis.

I like you, Big Joe. You speak with real passion about your favourite band, and that's real nice to see, and I like the way you present yourself on here. You've won me over.

Obviously you're a deluded fool spouting complete bollocks. But I've warmed to you.

every once in a while i'll stick on Be Here Now for shits and giggles and i rarely ever make it past the first few tracks. it's just so... loud. cocaine set to music indeed

was back when a lot of bands seemed to think that filling a CD's run time meant a better album as well. so long. so tiring

"Tom Waits and The Who aren't even in the discussion". Not really an opinion is it Adolf?

Regarding Be Here Now. I stuck it on when I bought it in 1997 and was thoroughly bored of it by the following morning.

But I admire you're trolling. Starting to think its Mike99 in off season mode.

Get you yeah. I love the first tune on the album. All Around the World ruined it though.

Funny. Ive watched all Back to the Futures and Godfathers in the last month. Great Sunday hungover stuff.

I've still only seen Godfather Part III once. Does it deserve the slagging its taken over the years?

And what about default films? The ones where you're flicking through the channels and stumble across them and think 'oh, go on then'. Cast Away and Crimson Tide are two i've lost count of watching.

Cast Away!? Oh fuck no. Up there with my least favourite films of all time. A stinking turd from start to finish.

I thought we were going somewhere, Joe.
