Big Dance Acts

I would think that this years DJ line ups will be dominated by house DJ's (going out on a limb there ;-) )

I can't see the Zabielas of this world playing in the main dance areas but would work very well in the after hours venues I think. I would imagine this year will be firmly in the Nmbrs, Rinse FM, Hessle Audio mould with a number of the other more obvious acts like Duke Dumount, Breach, EZ etc - its becoming more and more difficult to curate a dance area or event without falling straight into the same traps

I have seen Deadmau5 multiple times. With the cube, without it, festival headline shows, indoor shoes both big and small and by far the best time I have seen him was a free show he put on in conjunction with Nokia. Didn't have "the cube" but had all the bells and whistles that go along with it, screens, fire etc. Hell I don't even remember him having the mouse head on.

It was in the Electric Brixton, must have been a few thousand capacity and it was half full. A show of this calibur would be easy to pull off, for one of the smaller stages or tents. If it was advertised as not being the full live show and was of his "unhooked" gigs it may even help to thin out a potentially larger crowd.

It's a weird one figuring out where he would go though, as far as "edm" (man, I hate that phrase) goes he is one of the bigger acts out there and as far as I know his fanbase stretches out farther than just that scene but I still wouldn't have him healdine the Other, but then agin in my eyes he is just as well known as Chase and Status. He's need the full live show for that stage too, which would cost a lot of money.

As far as who I think could/will play I have no idea. But I can tell you who I'd like to show up off the top of my head.

  • Daft Punk
  • Justice
  • The Chemical Brothers
  • Pretty Lights
  • Infected Mushroom
  • The Bloody Beetroots.

The thing I have always found bizarre with Fatboy Slim is that he is a dreadful DJ in terms of technical ability, but he is a crowd pleaser and this means he can get away with it. Nobody really cares that all of his beatmatching is off becuase he knows what track to play and when to build a set that will make a whole field of people have fun, with all that said I stumbled across about 5 minutes of his set at Bestival and thought it was dreadful but thats largely down to my own personal feelings towards him and the music he plays.

Eddie Halliwell was amazing, now he is very run of the mill (tune wise)

At glastonbury I'd like to see some techno. Chris Liebing is always different.

Or someone like DJ YODA - highly technical, varied too.

Or some psytrance.

This Deadmau5 / calvin harris / Swedish House Mafia pop is the dance music equivelent of McFly. They use the same equipment as ACDC, but in a pop friendly atmosphere.

"Qulaity DJ's with technical ability able to demonstrate skills to an audience that may not fully appreciate electronic music."

Because of the type of festival it is, scratch Dj's like Dj Yoda, The scratch perverts, Jazzy Jeff would would do this best IMO.

Eddie Halliwell was a resident at the back-end of my Gatecrasher days. Technically very good, but agree that his music is terrible.

I cant really handle fast or hard electronic music these days. Minimal techno and deep house is about as much can take it. Still love it though in the summer.

My trance and hard house days were over a decade ago.

    • Been a pretty rainy June where I live (no where near the festival). What’s the weather been like in Pilton recently?   How’s the ground doing?
    • Couple of degrees warmer please.
    • With this being a fallow year do we know if the Beeb is going to show any past years highlights or make sets available on Iplayer to give us some glasto content as we await a return to the fields?

    • Brazil's first half was genuinely dreadful all round, not just the midfield, so they're absolutely not bulletproof. Whether Scotland have the quality to take advantage is a different question.   Tbf, that's as much on Morocco looking good, which I did think was a possibility. They could be a bit annoyed with themselves not to have scored more before Vini's goal tbh.
