Getting into Glasto with second hand tickets?

Ok well here is the deal... I have a friend who has 2 tickets but now due to circumstances can't make the weekend. She has offered to give me them both free of charge if I want to go and try to get into the festival, she and her boyfriend have let me know they can give me ID to borrow for the weekend to try it and such due to their photo's on the tickets and such...

Is their any possibility at all I will be able to get in fine? What if I just put on some sunglasses and hand painted my face while entering the site? Are they that strict?

I have never had the chance to go Glasto but I have wanted to for years now. It seems like a bit of a risk. But what are the chances? Thank you.

i've never thought about going in with face paint on... would they ask you to remove it? surely not, and unless you're a different gender / completely different shape / size to the person on the ticket then it would surely be hard for them to tell the two apart? but maybe there's a rule about obstructing your face in any way and they'd get suspicious

My picture's always been well-scrutinised whenever I've gone. You can try it but I wouldn't go too much out of your way.

And do the decent thing and give your friend the £200 if you manage to get in.

I haven't been for a few years, not sure if they've gotten stricter, but to be honest I never even noticed the ticket person take anything more than the vaguest glance at me.

I think you'd have a half decent chance getting in provided you aren't 10 stone heavier and a different race. Worth a try I would say.

Yeah it seems so risky... but now the chance is here I would feel like such a fool not to try. If anybodys got any stories about past experiences with photo ID they would be much appreciated.

Can't recall my ticket even being glanced at when I've been before - and I am aware of somebody who actually managed to get in a couple of years back with a ticket of a different gender.

I'm sure I've read on here before that they've tightened up checks and have certainly read a few stories (like the post above) of people being turned away.

So ye, maybe/maybe not. I wouldn't do it if you've got to go really out of your way to get to the festival.

Pot luck really i suppose. If the hair on the picture is different to yours, dye yours. Beard? grow one. Make up? wear some. And the rest.

It all depends how much you look like the picture youre holding. But it also depends on how much the person checking the tickets is paying attention. Just imagine how soul destroying that job is on the wednesday morning. Youd stop looking properly after a bit, or i would at least! You could get technical and find out the shifts of the people on the gate and go towards the end of someones shift on the wednesday afternoon? God knows how you would do this so maybe just try your luck!

And, if you dont get in at gate A, try B and so on. But i doubt putting on dark glasses and a hat as a crafty disguise would fool them!

I would be tempted to go completely over the top so its not suspicious e.g. both dress up as clowns and be really extrovert with props and suchlike so they just laugh and let you through.

Wearing a low brimmed hat and sunglasses channeling the power of Walt from Breaking Bad will only draw suspicion.

i got in in 2009 using a ticket I bought of ebay, we both had shave heads but I was much chubbier that the picture. The lady on the gate said that's not you, I said it was and had a bit of a laugh and they let me through. Another friend got in last time on another persons ticket. I'd say even if you have to travel a fair distance give it a go just don't get loads of supplies just in case.

I stay in the CV fields so go through the gates every day. Last festival, I was asked to remove my hat and sunglasses on entry on more than one occasion. So they do check your photo.

However, as I was going through the gates every day, I guess my chances of being checked strictly were higher. They didn't seem so strict every time I went through. So maybe it is the luck of the draw. I wouldn't assume you'll get more than one attempt though - I thought they confiscated tickets if they believe you're not the ticket holder, plus the radioing around the other gates seems very likely.
