Editing Host File

it won't make any difference.

it only worked last time because they'd made an error with the DNS entry for the glastonbury.seetickets.com sub-domain - changing the hosts file meant that your computer worked around that bad DNS entry.

I've of course checked the DNS entry this morning, and it's all correct this time.

it was pure coincidence it worked the last time. I didn't change my hosts file, yet a quick DNS lookup from my PC showed the same IP that everyone else was adding to their host file

it wasn't a coincidence.

At the point you did the DNS lookup it must be the case that See had corrected the DNS entry.

Yet I had the correct DNS value prior to people editing the host file and getting success. As you say, it's coincidence.

See put the correct DNS entry in place at just about spot-on 10am.

They put a wrong entry in place at about 9:40.

Prior to that, it was wrong. It was still possible to buy tickets despite that wrong entry (because there was another, good entry), but you had to get lucky with which of the two entries your PC tried to access. It would have had to have tried using only the good entry.

Changing the hosts file worked around that bad DNS entry.

If there was nothing to it, I wonder why the boss at see has got incrediably pissed off with me about it, because I told users here how to work around the issue with the hosts file but didn't get in touch with him to let him know what the problem was.

I changed it for main sale but have not changed it back. How do I do this and what do I change it to? Thanks in advance

Google to find out how to edit the hosts file for your particular operating system.

What you need to do is simply remove all of the line that includes glastonbury.seetickets.com

    • After all the good advice on here I had a nice visit to the site earlier in the week.    Walked down from Pilton village to Hitchen Hill and down the footpath to the Wood by Woodies.    Really strange seeing the site empty of 100,000 people. There is far more hedges and woodland on the site than you remember when the festival is on. Can see the stone circle and some structures still up on site. And looks like Worthy View has some camping going on there during the summer too.   Lots was fenced off with electric fencing to help wth the cattle grazing. Is really amazing how they set up the site as its hard enough accessing the area by car and foot nevermind all the kit needed to set the festival up. As others said you can't walk the whole site but nice to see the site again after a few years away   Pilton is also a lovely village with a nice village hall shop and post office attached, and got to speak to some locals who told me a few tales of past festivals down the years. One house for sale there would be lovely to live in - if only I had £2 million going spare
