looking after your feet ?

Well I used to do walking holidays and I found walking socks helped... used to have a thin pair to protect from blisters and then a thicker pair over the top for warmth... worth looking in go outdoors.

Edit: Would walk 100 miles in four days and never get blisters.

Wash and dry them every day and get some kind of foot powder and apply loads of it before you put on your socks. Worked for me the last2 years with trainers in 2010 and wellies in 2011 my feet were grand going home

1. Good socks

2. Clean DRY feet every day. Never ever put wet feet into dry shoes and never ever wear wet shoes or wet socks.

3. Good socks

4. Foot powder

5. Good socks

6. If you do get blisters, Compeed (or Boots less-pricey version) not plasters

7. GOOD SOCKS!

Good boots, good socks even if its really hot, compeed and foot powder, and if its raining and muddy then wear gaiters, wellies are the devils work and will fuck your feet up good and proper

I bought a pair of super thick camping socks in 2011 and the difference with previous years was unbelievable. pie_and_a_pint ain't wrong, they remain to this day the single greatest Glastonbury purchase I've ever made.

And as I said on the other thread, try and get out of your footwear and be bare foot at any opportunity you can.

Walking boots not wellies.

A. they stay on your feet if you go through any sticky clay

B. they dont deaden/numb your feet like wellies do after prolonged wearing

Light trench foot is a bugger and doesnt go away for effing months. Keep changing those socks. A good foot cream and skin softener would be an idea to bring with you.

if wet, you're basically fucked no matter what you wear unless you get fishing waders.

if dry, cotton socks and a pair of Air Max or something.

Whatever you wear, make sure it fits and don't shit around with cheap and chearful crap as your feet will fall off.

my issue is the big feet, im a size 13 with extra wide fit so no matter what boots I get my toes get pushed together this causes the hard skin to rub against the other toes and i get blisters on my toes and on the sides of my feet at the widest part.

anyone else have problems like this ?

It doesn't have to be special walking socks, or one thick and one thin pair, you just need to wear TWO PAIRS OF SOCKS, any old socks will do.

It works because the socks move and rub against each other, instead of rubbing against your foot, it's the rubbing that gives you blisters.

And obviously CLEAN DRY SOCKS EVERY DAY! And clean and dry your feet aswel, even just wiping them with baby wipes will do. You do not want to get trench foot!

Also 'Compeed' is the best thing if you do get a blister, if you haven't tried it before you'd be amazed how well it works.

I think merino socks are supposed to be the dogs but I never got on with them. Smartwool and Bridgedale are best brands in hiking and I've never had blisters cos of them and I've got transparent skin on my feet practically, I've blistered so badly I couldn't walk breaking in birkis. Go outdoors do them cheaply but also decathlon are amazing for all this kind of stuff, I think I paid 80p for a pair of walking socks and they're fine with another pair under. You don't always have to throw money at things.

There are people on here who have highly recommended Bamboo socks in the past. Might get a pair for this year to see what all the fuss is about. I also have some sort of shock absorbing inner sole for my boots. I'm going to bring talcum powder for my feet this year too. I brought some last year but can't remember actually taking my boots off to apply said powder. I must have done though, as I think wearing boots continually for 5 days and nights would do something hideous to your feet.

    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
