Stage Placements

Hi,

This was my first festival and I have to say that I absolutely loved it, great music, great people, good ish food and shitty camping ( only way to camp in the uk ) but anyway had a great time and can't wait to return, the only thing that left me a bit was the placement of some of the bands.

Bands like,

Biffy Clyro

Chase and Status

The Prodigy

No Fx

They all got put on the main stage even though they are not even really what most would call Rock / Heavy Metal. I like many others where only at Biffy Clyro because they where waiting there all day for Metallica or got dragged there by someone else, i mean i have nothing against any bands they all have huge fan bases so to say they are rubbish is wrong but none of the above seemed to interact well with the crowd or where just generally misplaced, Biffy Clyro had me so bored I wanted to sleep, Why not put all the things that they know everyone will like on the main stage, I would love to have seen more from slash or nightwish on the mainstage but they where shoved to that zippo stage.

Who i think should have been on the main stage

Slash ft MK

Nightwish

Shinedown

Rise Against

Killswitch Engage

Just my opinion people.

Biffy and NOFX are rock. They may not be hard rock or the type of thing you like, but they're rock.

And Prodigy are DL headliner size, doesn't matter that they're a different genre from the main, they've got a large fanbase amongst DL goers and have shown in previous years that they'll attract a large crowd.

Chase and Status you might have had a point, except they were playing right below Prodigy who they share a style and fanbase with. That'll have helped attract non-metalheads to buy day tickets for that pairing. The traditional rockers could and did go watch Nightwish/Slash.

Also, nowt wrong with being on the 2nd stage. It's not just "that zippo stage", it's a fair size, and was never particularly crammed. Nightwish got a longer set than they would have on the main as they'd have been playing lower down.

Nobody forces you to stay at the Main Staoge all day, if there's an act on you don't like, Go watch someone else. If there's an act on you don't like, don't watch them. Seriously, if you've such a problem with The Prodigy you should've just gone to watch Slash. Your post is ridiculous

NoFX totally interacted with the crowd. They had me pissing myself and the cancer Bats thing "we said no" and the concentration camp joke still has me and my pals wetting ourselves. When you consider that Metallica and Prodigy themselves asked for Biffy and C&S then there is not a lot else that could have been done. Prodigy and Pendulum are huge favourites at DL so you will see them again I'm afraid.

I think that was the 5th time that Biffy Clyro have played Download so somebody obviously thinks there's a crowd for them at the festival, and I really enjoyed their set (though not the best I've seen them). But like it's already been said, one of the best things about being at a festival is that if there's somebody on the main stage that you don't really like, you've always got options on the other stages.

C&S absolutely nailed it and Prodigy are headliner size so no complaints there. C&S prob could of headlined the second but in reality it made sense they combined with Prodigy, they had the metal alternatives available on other stages.

Biffy are huge too, far too big for second. Don't think their slot was quite right but they couldn't of really gone anywhere elae. They're just too much of a Reading band.

Really hope Download keeps going down the Prodigy / C&S route for bookings, would definitely help convince me to keep going in the future.

    • The Great Fete Festival (Sunday Only) Ocean Colour Scene day on Tickets For Good.
    • I was also at Ghost but seated. When they scanned my ticket's and they came up as seated they printed a small ticket with the seat number info.
    • I was standing for Ghost at O2 London last year where they put the phone in a pouch beforehand so I assume they're is a mechanism in place for people in seats.
    • Most likely not, keeping an eye on Tixel and Twickets might be the best option.
