Bit disappointed with the shitty indie bands in overly high places, but there seems to be a few bands not playing any uk fests that arent playing for the meantime, what are the chances of these?

it seems to be the case that lots of american bands are swerving europe &/or the UK this year - I'm guessing that the olympics is a big part of that.

Placebo - playing festivals in France and Germany the same weekend

Subways - odd that they weren't announced, perhaps to be added under The Cribs in the open slot

Sum41 - recently cancelled gigs so not touring atm?

Apart from Lostprophets and Brand New the rest are small enough that they could be on future announcements so don't count them out yet.

For example, I half-saw a new item this morning which was saying something along the lines of accommodation in the UK costing twice as much this summer as it did last summer - I'm presuming that's because of the Olympics.

And if acts are avoiding europe &/or the UK because of a fear of terrorism around the olympics, that again can be at any point.
