Glastonbury Memories

To continue the lovely trend of positive threads and to really raise the excitement levels up a few more notches, your best Glastonbury memories.

Mine, stood at the front for Muse, before they started and before the massive moshes, I held a mirror up in the air. Looking back at the crowd was just... mindblowing.

Love that place!

EDIT: I'm sorry, just realised there's a very similar thread below called 'Seeing is believing' by camperman. Sorry mate.

One of my first memories is still one of my favourites. sitting on the shoulders of an extremely tall man who was wearing a huge orange wig and crazy make up. whilst watching david bowie in 2000. i was only 9!

Walking past the DJ bit near The Other Stage and they played Birdhouse In Your Soul, me and my girlfriend stopped and had a dance. It's the little things that make you happy and that was one of the highlights of my weekend.

Late 80's (?) being woken up in the green field about 7am by a police (?) helicopter with a cameraman hanging out the side of it holding a video camera the size of a suitcase, pointing it at me, curled up next to my bike by a camp fire where I'd crashed out about an hour previously. I pulled a J out of my top pocket, lit it, and stuck my middle finger up at him.

That's how we rebelled in the olden days LOL

Early ninties sat around a campfire with these teenaged traveller kids. We were all filthy from the mud, but in good spirits. They were Irish and got up and started belting out a tune on fiddles and whistles. As the dust kicked up and the sparks drifted upwards, the rest of the festival fell out of view, and all I could see and hear was these kids dancing around me in the night, and I realised that I could have transported hundreds or even thousands of years into the past and witnessed exactly the same scene.

ETA: Actually, I don't think it was that muddy - I think we were just filthy, lol. :D

Last year walking towards Avalon, there was a large screen playing a movie. Wasn't paying much attention, but suddenly realised they were showing The Rocky Horror Picture Show, and we were passing at the exact moment in the film when The Timewarp kicked in. Had a random dance with about 50 other people, then tootled off grinning into the night

'99 When Hole were performing and Courtney started making security let the crowd surfers up on the stage, there was something amazing about that to me at the time and everyone around me had the biggest grin. None of the performances I'd seen so far that day had been particularly great and in the burning sun it was just the moment where my festival took off and everything was amazing from that moment on.

81 or 82, the longdrops had wooden doors (no portaloos then) after the fist night there were no doors left on em. (used as fire wood) sitting there early in the morning umbrela over me head, reading a paper and saying mornin to randoms as they strolled past surreal :D:D:D

My very 1st Glastonbury.... "I bl**dy hate this, it's all crap, I am filthy, I need a shower, it's too much walking, I'm going home..." Walk past the Pyramid stage and Faithless are playing, stop for a rest, before I know it I am down the front moshing, Insomnia is banging out and I cried like a baby with happiness. Never missed one since. ;)

My mate J dancing in the mud to Dr Hook with a random man dressed in a kilt to Sylvia's mother.

THE Thunderstorm, ace!

Paul Mccartney, Live & let die.

Tiny tea tent, the muddy year, with my then 17 year old daughter, it was 4am, we drank tea and had a fab time talking to randoms.

Walking down a slope and going a*se over tit in the mud and getting a standing ovation from about 50 people, I got up, took a bow and was handed 5 cans from various strangers. :D

The Wurzels, a see saw and loads of fun people

Brothers bar and fun lovin criminals

Wandering one night and discovering a mojito and salsa bar, what a great few hours!

Me, my mate & The Verve, we didn't realise at the time that the people singing and strumming along on the guitar were the Verve plus pals, great renditions of Beatles classics. Good times, great sing-a-long, fab campfire.

Sitting at the stones, having a chat with a random...it was onlly when people starting taking pics we realised it was Danny Dyer. :D

Just off the top of my head, I have a million others. LOL :D

    • I saw that the payment method is contactless wristbands - I understand you collect them at the festival site and can top them up there as well? Yes, there are top up points, keep the recepe if you want to withdraw the money in the end   How much does food and drink usually cost at the festival? We would like to know how much money we should prepare for the festival. Beer, Wine etc. 5€, Gin tonic, Whishkey Cola were 6-6.5€, food 10€    Is there a bus from the festival site to the city center? And are there any stops along the way? No offical info yet, but ussualy there are free festival buses from Ljubljanica to festival site, with few stops on the way. Nice to get to the festival but crowded from festival back to the city.   Where is the best place to find an Uber/Bolt to return from the festival site? Petrine ulica   Are there any shaded areas to take a break from the strong sun? Yes, i think there is some.
