The Park Special Guests: Rumour Round up

Pulp have to be in pole position rumourwise. Only thing I will say is that I don't know why everyone's so convinced it'll be the Saturday - theres been no real indicators what day theyll play and there's an unusually long 45 minute gap before Friday's Special Guests.

Would love PJ Harvey to play - surprised she's not on the bill and would be nigh on perfect for a Park slot.

I would change seats then and then explain how Stereophonics were allowed to be special guests at Glastonbury a few weeks before they headlined V festival on an 'exclusive' :P

because there can be exceptions.

In that particular instance Stereobores were booked for Glasto before they were booked for V, so V either had to accept that situation or the Stereobores would refuse to take the V booking. And because them being at Glastonbury wouldn't be announced until around early June, V did something that do every year (tho more normally about something different) and told some porkies.

Anyway, aren't you the guy who told me that Bon Jovi's Bristol gig wasn't an AEG promotion when I said it was, yet it's clearly an AEG promotion, as any of the posters will show you?

This bit is correct. Not only festival exclusives but also tours. Headliners (and some sub headliners) aren't allowed to tour for 6 months prior to the festival date and not allowed to even announce a tour that's happening months after until the festival date has passed. (ala The Darkness this week)

as someone has already said, this is utter crap.

What ends up in a contract is a negotiation between promoter and band, with all sorts of factors in the mix.

The exact quote:

Questioner: "...what happened with Pulp?"

Eavis: "Oh, I can't talk about that."

[audience laughter]

And that's it. He had earlier explained that Emily had briefed him on the train about what not to say as 'it'll be on all those websites tomorrow'.

in which case I'd say that Pulp are very likely to play.

As I've said, I've never known Michael to deny a band as playing that is playing - which is why I suspect he swerved the question.

Yes, I know that he's previously said they're not playing, but that could simply be down to him not knowing that they're playing (he's not as closely involved in the bookings as his words sometimes suggest) or that they weren't sorted to play at the time he said those words.

I wondered if Emily booked them for the Park after Michael spoke to Scott? He also refused to be drawn on Radiohead apparently

I missed Radiohalf last year, be interested to know how people found out.

Biffy was obvious due to all the bloody flags everywhere. The best bet if you don't have internet is asking the sound guys during the day, although sometimes they need to be bribed. I was told one of the sets would be Michael Jackson until I forked out some Haribo.

    • Feels like Rush's structure is set up for days off after shows tbf. They have a night off after all 3 shows in London, and I'm assuming somebody else has snuck into the gaps and put in a show.
    • I'm bemused why Jaissle hasn't been confirmed yet. If he and his coaches are already there, surely the paperwork to send this through must be somewhat sorted and confirmation imminent, no?   Feel like clubs are soft on tapping up now as an industry, right? I swear most deals seem to be a case that personal terms are agreed beforehand. In an older life, this Bruno deal has a potential case imo given the use of intermediaries to plant a seed in Bruno's mind this was a good idea (much I'm prepared to accept last season's mess would likely have had Bruno doubting if he wanted to stay regardless) but the industry seems more forgiving of this stuff at present. Wind seems to be picking up that a deal is about to happen regardless. Shame as I'd have been more willing to accept a move to Real Madrid but it is what it is.   Would be nice if we could show some more balls with this stuff tbf. Feel like the owners are taking a strange lesson from Isak last year in that now, we just have to let everyone go at the first sign of trouble, even though other clubs in a similar boat to us are seemingly more willing to turn back and tell pursuers to f**k off.
    • I wouldn't. U2 would almost certainly be doing stadiums and Muse have been saying they have stadium shows booked. They're the likelier of the two to be doing BST Hyde Park, but my expectations would be to expect them turning up at a stadium.
    • Exactly. One rumour doing the rounds was that they were playing 2 stadium shows in Greece next summer and that I would assume it'll be part of the same tour to do a London stadium gig.
