i remember walking away from the stage when Pulp were headlining, and my daughter (who was 5 or 6 at the time) asked who was on... I said "Pulp", and she said "we don't like Pulp, do we dad"... some people who were walking near started laughing

There's no reason why they can't be both (though I wouldn't go any higher than 'above average').

But if all the stuff about poor people not going to school and being covered in chip grease (but still 'burning bright') doesn't strike you as a little condescending, then fair enough.

Common People is a song that was thrown around so much while i was growing up that i put it to the back of my mind and forgot about it. But now every time i hear it i've learned to love it all over again. Great energy and great lyrics from a proper working-class Sheff bloke :-)
