Pennard Hill or Hawkwell

  1. 1. Which is a better place to camp

Recommended Posts

Me and my friend were having a dispute last night.

He is coming to his third Glastonbury and has always camped in Hawkwell, because it's close for relaxing by the Pyramid, and the John Peel.

I am coming to my fourth and have always camped in Pennard Hill, because it's closer for everything else, and by The Park (my favourite part of the site).

We want our groups to camp together this year, but couldn't reach an agreement as to where - we were both too stubborn. So we have decided to put it to the poll on here, and whichever comes off better is where we will camp.

Thanks for helping us sort our tedious dispute.

Pennards is pretty over-subscribed, but it has always been that way. If you like space, peace and quiet it won't be for you, but the location is hard to beat if you spend your time in the green fields, other stage, jazzworld and shangri-la.

I had better neighbours in Hawkwell, but that is luck of the draw each year.

this will be my 3rd one also, first year we camped in west holt area which was nicely sized, good expect for the contstant hari krisnas music going off!,but that mostly got taken up last year the left field stage and area.

we were in pennard hill last year and it seemed pretty decent, might try the park area for camping this year.

I do prefer to be in that area nearest to the livelier areas after the bands, its close to the park, the stone circle, the healing fields are near, and its right off of the paths to arcadia/unfairground/shangri la. Its not far at all from the glade/other stage/west holts.

Seems like the areas of camping near the pyramid is just far away from the after band happenings.

Last year was our first so I have noting to compare it to but apart from the overcrowding I really liked Pennards. It had a good atmosphere andf was really close to everything i needed to get to.

We were in big ground last year - not ideal in terms of it's right by the pyramid (lineup was ok for once last year though so worked out well). Also not too close to much late night stuff, although I was only out mega late on one night - generally a walk home included a bimble past the brothers bar, bourbon st, queens head which always seemed lively, and not too far from the cider bus, so it was always a nice walk home. A good thing about being on the wrong side of the festival though was the joy of having to walk back across most of the site to get anywhere good (non-pyramid) the next day.

I camped in Big Ground in 2008 and 2009 I will be back there this year, fills up very quickly though. As mentioned above it is a walk form the late night areas, but I like that to "clear my head" before a few "breakfast ciders" before bed.

Just beat me to posting the above picture, although to be fair the bit that flooded so badly is now hospitality camping in any case.

That's not all of Pennards is it though.

I've never been to a super wet one, but surely unless you put your tent somewhere foolish like the bottom of a hill, you'll be OK.
