Staggeringly good headliners

I'm sure everyone will remember the NME/Newsbeat article and the main quote of all 3 headliners been;

"staggeringly good"

So do people think that Muse, The Strokes and My Chemical Romance fit this description (If these are the 3 that is). Bearing in mind 2 of the 3 are playing other UK festivals in non headlining positions, so would this not devalue the image and booking power of Leeds/Reading? And ultimately mean they are not 'staggeringly good' headliners, and R+L are no longer seen as a major player in the festival booking game?

I am optimistic, although i would not have a problem with those 3 headliners all be it they are questionable i think it may be more a case of:

MUSE

elbow

GREEN DAY

my chemical romance

BLUR

the strokes

Or Maybe have The Strokes headling and Pulp as the sub.

Fire away!

Have to wait and see, its just one of those threads that show peoples opinions and differnced over MCR headlining again.

If the headliners you have there, with Strokes, Muse and Green Day would be a very strong line-up. Very very strong in my opinion, I just hope Mr Benn dosn't thing that 'Staggering' applys to MCR because i think 85% of Leeds Festival goers will think they are 'OK' more 'Suprising' not Staggering!

But as reports on here are saying it will be the three very strong roumours that will headline!

Unfortunately i do not work for Festival Republic no otherwise i'd attempt to book decent bands.

And ah shit yeah forgot Oxegen is in Ireland not Northern Ireland, my mistake but still same principle applies subbing at Oxegen.

I agree i still think there's some twists in the tale. Fingers crossed anyway.

Someone mentioned yesterday in the post about them announcing UK events when Awesome As F**k live album is released it may just be them bringing the American Idiot musical to the West End but i highly doubt that as it's just been stated that ticket sales on Broadway for it have plummeted due to Billie Joe leaving the role of St.Jimmy and it's threatened with closure over there so i'd say it was unlikely they would be brining it to the West End so god knows what this 'event' may be if it's not American Idiot musical related. Hopefully R+L.

The Strokes, Muse and My Chemical Romance are not 'staggeringly' good headliners.

anyone who believed Melvin's words would fit their own personal opinion of what is 'staggering' is somewhat of a fool. ;)

It's marketing guff. He's not going to say "we've got three bands, but lots of people will think that A, B, or C is a poor choice", is he?:lol:

Yet the posts here get to show that no matter what three bands were the headliners, lots of people would think at least one of them was a poor choice. That's the result of personal opinion, and not necessarily the result of a poor choice of headliners for the festival.

The simple fact is that no matter what people here think, if those are the headliners they're a more than decent choice for the festival - just as Arcade Fire were last year, which at the time lots of people thought weren't even suitable to headline the tent (which just gets to show that the likes of Melvin knows more than those people do). ;)

Benn is just like any organiser/promoter,hyping up things too much.

strokes are top booking, muse is okay, very common for festivals though, mcr is poor booking for headliner-would they even draw many people to watch,im not sure there anything special live either.

now strokes-blur-iron maiden/daft punk/foo fighter-theirs a good list of proper headliners.

    • It was never going to be great was it, there is comments of Mickey Mouse all over socials lol which is very similar to Glastonbury.  Someone I know from RIP watched Welcome to the Jungle and left and they went saying they've got to see GNR. It was the only day not to see out as well.
    • I decided to goto bed early for the Aussie game rather than stay up for Scotland. I don't regret my decision, I also love the complete over reaction during the world cup when a player has 1 good game, that Watford winger is now everyones dream signing. Its also funny when clubs get into the hype and end up overpaying for someone who then does nothing in the prem.
