I'm not a fan of the royals but they are good for tourism and the economy so meh. Doubt they will ever go though because they have become part of our celebrity culture so there will always be interest. Funnily enough I'd like Scottish indepence(I'm no fan of the SNP btw)so if we got that maybe I'd live in a republic haha

As to the wedding, I have no interest but as above it's good for the economy and well I get days off so will do me!

Think of all the factories, businesses etc that will be closed and NOT producing for the day.

Estimated cost £6 Billion.

Think of all the people paid hourly or who work through temping agencies getting a day off without pay, less money to spend into the economy etc.

No the royals take our freedom or smile and wave while the state takes our freedom, stopping an elected president stopping the state taking our freedom.

The lack of civil freedom under UK rule - no right to free speech, no right to protest, no right of publication - no-one to enforce any constitutional rights even if we had them - leads to lack of professional and academic freedoms, which in turns leads to very costly mistakes by management and people-who-know-better not being able to speak out to correct the mistakes.

Hard to say precisely what this costs us in total, but for example, we have the bank bailouts and the brain drain of talented scientists and engineers to America.

Per captia income in Britain is about £7000 less than in the USA, which totals to about £460 billion per annum Britain losing out if our economy was run as well as the US economy has been.

Then again there is the human cost in lives lost in disasters and tragedies again because we didn't have the freedom to speak out to prevent disaster.

So lives are lost and fortunes are lost thanks to the royals and the kingdom.

So it really is grossly ignorant of you to say the royals add more than they take.

The only plus for me is a day off. It means no work and therefore no pay but I'm glad of the break. And I'll cebrate in the evening with our Glasto Gang plus partners by going to see The Hamsters do a Hendrix triibute set in Cardiff.

The lack of civil freedom under UK rule - no right to free speech, no right to protest, no right of publication Speech, protest and publication - all of which you just refuted with this post, irony! - no-one to enforce any constitutional rights even if we had them - leads to lack of professional and academic freedoms, which in turns leads to very costly mistakes by management and people-who-know-better not being able to speak out to correct the mistakes. You say all this yet we are still one of the worlds leading economies and are near the top when it comes to engineering etc

Hard to say precisely what this costs us in total, but for example, we have the bank bailouts and the brain drain of talented scientists and engineers to America.Several countries have bailouts and massive debt, thats a global problem not a UK one. We brain drain places in Eastern Europe, Africa and Asia, can't have it both ways!

Per capita income in Britain is about £7500 less than in the USA, which totals to about £460 billion per annum Britain is losing out compared to if our economy was run as well as the US economy has been. You been smoking? Have you seen the size of the US deficit?! As a percentage and a total it well outweighs ours. As well as the US indeed...

Then again there is the human cost in lives lost in disasters and tragedies again because we didn't have the freedom to speak out to prevent disaster.Come again?

Phwaoar for Katie, indeed.

When I was about 16, my plan was to go to St Andrews, become Wills' best mate, and take Britney or Christina, whoever was his cast-off. Ho hum!

Anyway, Peter- you promote the US model, and then in the same post link to a post about Dunblane... as if they have less gun tragedies/nutters than the UK?

Seriously, if I was 50/50 before reading your shit, after doing so I'd be signing up to fight against it. I hope you get arrested by our 'royalist' secret service for threatening to bomb the wedding of a young - and seemingly in love - couple.

Then how do you not see that the discourse you're piecing together negates the point that you're trying to make?

I've read a good number of appeals drafted by extremist scholars. Yours is somewhat lacking, and dare I say, desperate.

    • 1000% agree with this. I was there last night, ridiculous how good he was.
    • Hi Everyone!   I need your help. I'm trying work out who was playing at The Wishing Well at 3am on the Monday morning at the 2025 festival - this was once the official setlist had ended. The music was down tempo, bass heavy, kept evolving, just mesmerising. Anyone have any ideas? and/or was there as well?
