1. Arcade Fire

2. Phoenix

3. We Are Scientists

4. Klaxons (Pretty damn good I was smack bang in the middle after We Are Scientists and after seeing how many left I just thought no point so stayed. They blew me away and have no qualms about missing this Blink show which didn't seem like my kinda thing.)

5. The Libertines (Not as good as Wednesday)

6. The Cribs

7. LCD Soundsystem (Not awesome after Phoenix but still pretty decent)

8. The Futureheads

9. Biffy Clyro

10. The Gaslight Anthem

Lows:

1. Lostprophets (Rubbish at V in 08, thought give them one more try they were just awful)

2. Mystery Jets

3. Band of Horses (Not bad i'm a huge fan and expected a bit more)

Not a shabby weekend all in all. Arcade Fire I

Highs (in no particular order):

1. Goldheart Assembly. Stunning sound - they were first on in the NME tent on Sunday so a tiny crowd, but well worth getting up for.

2. Arcade Fire. Totally blew me away. Beautiful.

3. Weezer. I know very little about them and they held my attention for an hour. Really cracking set. 10/10.

4. Frank Turner. Packed tent and a nice singalong. Can't ask for much more.

5. General Fiasco. Went along not expecting much, actually they were pretty exciting.

6. Freelance Whales. Another new band I'd heard good things about. They had a lovely attitude and some beautiful harmonic sounds. And a squeezebox thing.

7. Gaslight Anthem. No nonsense Springsteen-esque rock. I think they appealed to the Hold Steady fan in me.

8. Klaxons. I had a right good dance to them in the tent last night. Seems like they've really developed as a live act. Must give the new stuff a proper listen.

9. We Are Scientists. Worth it for the banter alone.

(Sorry, I can only give you a top nine - there weren't any other bands that really stood out for me over the weekend. Lots of others I enjoyed though.)

As for the bottom:

1. Guns n Roses. Worst band I've seen at Reading by a mile. I'm surprised at the range of opinions on here about their set - guess it just goes to show what different tastes we all have!

I didn't see anything else that was offensively bad, to be honest.

Leeds -

1. Guns N Roses – Banged out the hits with enthusiasm & skill. Big show with the feel of a large stadium gig

2. Limp Bizkit – Delivered last year at Download & killed it at Leeds too, great crowd & the 1st band of the weekend that made it feel like I was at a festival.

3. Weezer – Really surprised me, a casual fan before the performance & a big fan now. Rivers was the frontman of the weekend

4. Cypress Hill – Been a fan for 15+ years & they didn’t disappoint. Great setlist too

5. Against Me – Unexpected gem of the weekend. Never heard anything by them but was recommended them by a mate…I can’t be the only person who saw them? Amazing set.

6. The Gaslight Anthem – Another passionate performance by one of the most consistent bands I’ve seen of late.

7. Cancer Bats – A band that have too big of a sound for a small stage, killer riffs & beautifully brutal songs

8. A Day to Remember – Really got the crowd going for an early Sunday slot

9. Biffy Clyro – Not the best I’ve seen the Biff but still played their hearts out. Thought we’d get some new material tbh.

10. Billy Talent – Another reliable midday performance. ‘Rusted by Rain’ is a song made for big outdoor gigs.

I think the majority of people are just saying ‘I’m a big Blink fan’ or used to be a fan so I thought their performance was good. Just the lack of any objectivity is a bit disappointing. I’m a huge Public Enemy fan, seen them 6 times but it didn’t stop them from being f**king dreadful at The Warehouse Project in Manchester. They have however, been brilliant on other occasions. Blink were average at best (at Leeds). If the organisers wanted a ‘pop punk’ band with enough casual appeal/chart success to headline, either Greenday or The Offspring would’ve blown Blink off the stage.

    • Not necessarily but it should be, Download have a habit of messing it uo when others get the bookings on point. Good Charlotte I doubt are playing 3rd down and that too 3 that day while dreamy is too strong. I think you'd have one another day to help sell weekend tickets. I also doubt Papa Roach play.

    • Another Kraftwerk one for me today, as just back from seeing them.
    • Completed my 2026 survey. Put down Super Furry Animals as my most wanted for next year but suspect the moment has gone for that. Popped a big shopping list in the box for who else you would like to see. 🙂
