Late night Glasto - huge improvements

It occured to me while I was looking up at the London Underground (a huge tower block with a tube train crashing out of the top of it) just how much the late night area of Glasto ha sprogressed in the 6 short years I've been attending.

Lost Vagueness was alwys seen as really cool but wouldn't hold a candle to what's being down now in Shangri-la etc.

The Alleys really are a work of genius and are so professionally put together - it feels like ME must have just the right people delivering this stuff now.

The Uncommon Ground felt like a bit of a cut through this time around but the rest is truly exceptional and so much thought has clearly gone into.

I know there were queues to get in but that's true of any area where capacity is limited - the area between the barriers at the Pyramid for example.

Yep, was fantastic and I think it makes a big difference that there are multiple areas and ways in now - that logjam going down the railway line was always a bit painful. I do think the old Trash City / Arcadia area has lost some of its atmosphere now it's bigger, but overall an improvement as it needed the capacity.

-The slightly larger shangri la due to the moving of the bassline circus was really excellent and felt a lot bigger.

-Arcadia was good, but I thought the new stage wasn't as good as the old one.

-The Common just felt like a way to increase capacity, maybe more frequent circus shows and acts on in between would have helped this.

-The Unfairground just seemed like a graveyard for trash city to me, very little going on, except at strummerville in the back.

-District 9 looked great but they need to increase the capacity of the "clubs" imo, as there's not much on otherwise. Would have liked a trash city style fire show in the middle or similar.

Overall these are just my complaints though, it was ten times better than last year, I still have nightmares of shuffling along the railway track before shuffling round shangri la and then shuffling out again :P The queues were 10 mins max even on Saturday night, and the areas didn't feel crowded.

after queueing on Friday to get in, sacking off the stages and going early on Saturday was the best decision i made all weekend. i was in there by 11, not back to my tent till 6 and loved every second of it (or at least those that i can remember). Block 9 and Shangri la were worth the ticket price alone for me. that feeling of walking round the corner to see a half destroyed, 5 storey block of flats with a fricking train ploughed into the middle will stay with me for a long time yet.

'scuse the blurryness, but it was late/early!

Loved Block9, Shangri La and Arcadia.. managed to spend alot more time there this year, mainly thru arriving early enough before it got rammed. Especially loved the alleyways at shangri la which I didn't see last year cos it was so busy. That bug squishing thing was ace!

Was there a lightning bolt machine in Arcadia? We were stood in the avalon field wednesday or thursday nite and they were testing something that looked through the trees to be an arc of lightning in front of the Arc Bar..

Opening up the entrance through bellas field worked brilliantly, last year we couldnt get anywhere near the area this year we were up there every night. I would have liked to see cube henge in the common. I thought it was a bit wasted in the dance field as it was only working a few hours a day

shangri la was amazing this year and those alleys wer cool as fook altho the rave kareoke got on my nerves after a bit :D

the aracdia stage was mindblowing aswell, my mate summed it up by saying its like disneyworld for adults! thought it was easier to get into.

and remember "arcadia to the left shangri la straight on"

I loved it all so much I went around everything five nights on the trot. Fish and Tits was pretty mad with a couple of very smart ladies cavorting in lingereeee and a silver mermaidy creature ( with gorgeous eyes) with the proverbial orbs on display. All set in a grotto with twinkling white lights. Nice. There seemed to be a high percentage of really young folks walking around having a hell of a time. For me this is what the festival is all about - creative and unifying hedonism on a grand scale - and what about the XXX bar in Block 9 with the Dog Faced Geisha - outrageous and potty. The Hub area of Shangri La looked incredible - far better than last year. I couldn't help grinning at the sheer genious of it all.

It was two guys who had electric charges going through their bodies. They were passing the lightning between each other and then 'throwing' it across between the podiums, and then they had poles with lightning coming out of them. I watched with morbid fascination - would love to know how they did it!

My key thing is just how much it's moved on and how quickly. I don't know the details of the fallout with the LV people or ho many are still involved but it really does feel as if GFL have the best in the business organising this area now. And I'm confident that there's not a festival in the world that could touch it.

Absolutely loved theses areas, words really can't describe them. Shangri La was truelly immense, glad we got in before the crowds. I want to tell my mates all about it but I really don't think there's any way to descibe it.
