have to agree with the disappointment, i also walked away. cheers and claps after each song seemed minimal and lot of people around me looking a bit bored. wasn't till they played dare that the crowd got going, and then it went flat again for the next tune which is about the point I left. as i tried to get to john peel stage wishing I had done that in the first place a girl on the path said it was the worst headliner ever which kinda summed up what I was thinking.

I think the last album needs to be listened to quite a few times and

then you either get it or you don't. Not really for the masses, I think. Had to walk away too even though

I wanted to wait for Dare. So many others also walked away, which made it even

more depressing. My other half wasn't going to make it all the way through though so had

to leave. Saw nice fire play instead.

People saying they were just waiting to hear 'Dare' clearly aren't appreciative to the overall sound of a Gorillaz album. That is the one tune of Demon Days that sticks out like a saw thumb as a single. There are so many contributors to their work that I wondered if it was going to come together but people's reaction are shocking.

Having said that I wasn't blown away with Albarn last year, but that's cos alot of Park Life has dated so much.

Will be interesting to hear the possible backlash when the majority get back.

Haha people waiting for Dare, that sums it up really. El Manana and On Melancholy Hill were beautiful. If you were bored then maybe you should have taken more time in listening to their albums before seeing them, rather than waiting to hear the singles. 'Dizzee should have headlined' also sums it up for me, if you wanna hear pop single after pop single then you should stay at home and listen to the radio.

The issue I sense with Gorrilaz is the lack of a front man/woman to carry the set, or alternatively, if that wasn't going to happen musical links making it some kind of rock opera performance is a way I expected them to get round it. Its a bit weird saying they lacked identity considering what an iconic band they've become

Unusually I saw all three of the Pyramid headliners - IMO Gorillaz were the weakest by quite a distance.

It just didn't feel quite right. The guests (with the exception of the set-saving Snoop Dogg) didn't really work - the Lou Reed appearance was actually a bit disturbing.

I entriely agree that people needed to have had a good listen to Plastic Beach to really enjoy the set - that was only ever going to apply to a small minority of those there.

No blame for GFL; ultimately they wanted U2 (who I'm convinced would have 'knocked it out of the park') and Gorillaz were a late replacement. I still suspect that they might have been scheduled to appear anyway.

Personally I think Damon got it wrong. The attempted sing-along at the end over a video of whales and dolphins being killed was never going to give him a moment like he had last year, which is what I think he was after.

One of the guys in my group summed up Snoops appearance at the end quite well: "It was as if he was worried that having appeared on the video at the start he'd be associated with a bad set so he turned his tourbus around and came back for to rescue the finale. The massive hug Damon gave him suggested he felt a little the same.

They were unfortunately just very underwhelming without enough big anthems to keep everyone right in to it. As some of the others, I ended up catching the end of the Bootleg Beatles set who provided the sing along!

Yes they were very poor, I like them and think the latest album is good but the atmosphere was very flat, I've never seen so many people leave a headline set at a festival to go elsewhere, it took me about 30 mins to get out of the crowd because that many people were trying to leave after just 6/7 songs.

No point in moaning about it though, you can just go and watch someone else, I went to see Fatboy Slim who was fantstic and I've never had the chance of seeing.

I really enjoyed Gorillaz. It was noticeable the amount of people leaving which was a shame but ultimately their loss. I can understand why as they arent a hit after hit sort of band, but the performance itself was great, perhaps just not mainstream enough for the Pyramid.

    • I mean I think unless you are camped in a particular bit which apparently you just get no sleep i feel it would be better setup to travel in from a hotel each day and back. Ah there is so many downfalls to it for me, I think the Download main stage area is so much better and that's coming from me. If you're camped in green to go round all the time and out for lidl and even water is stupid!
    • Did you camp or go for a hotel? I looked into it briefly and seems easy enough to get back to Nuremberg.
    • Been last time in 2018 when the festival was happening in parque Bela vista. ls the new location good for such a big festival? What's the temperature in the evening near Tejo? Should we bring a raincoat or a jacket?
