For the reason Jammy says- Uefa should make the distinction whether they're "the same tournament or not". Hence why at the beginning of this debate I put up the three different options I think should apply.

Revising history I see.

You said that it was illogical and problematic. I said in reply that there was nothing illogical or problematic about it and that it was in fact very straight-forward. You're now conceeding that it is not problematic and that it is straight-forward. Good, because it is.

It's already distinct. The Champions League is part of the Europa tournament, but the Europa is not part of the Champions League. This distinction is a matter of fact.

Could it perhaps be you that is not listening to others?

which is ludicrous. why should a player on the fringes of the barca team not be allowed to play for say psv in the europa league if he signs for them in january. barcelona were never in a million years going to be part of the europa leauge yet the rule says that they might be.

it might make sense in one way but it's completely ridiculous in the whole meaning of cup-tied.

i don't think i even agree with cup ties in general.

Never said illogical or problematic. Just said "over complicated" and called it "bizarre". By over complicated I don't mean I don't understand it, it just means I think it should be a far more cut n dry rule.

Nah he is only cup-tied if Barca dropped into the EL. Which means the distinction varies from club to club.

UEFA count the CL group stages and EL as separate for stats, money and everything except cup ties it seems.

All stems from the fact that UEFA decided to let the 3rd place teams into the UEFA- to satisfy the big guns no doubt. Has almost helped us before but still think it is a cop out on UEFA's part. 3rd in your group should just mean you are out.

Semantics. Over complicated implies problematic and bizarre implies illogical.

You said they had their reasons making out that you didn't understand those reasons, whereas now you're saying that you do. That'll be because it's straight-forward rather than bizarre.

yeah i tend to like the safety net option but in theory you're right, why should you be rewarded with an extra cup run for failure? though how many have won it from being in the champions league pre-christmas? guess it makes the latter stages stronger but there's something wrong with it.

It is bizarre and over complicated- as there was a simplified rule that never needed changing

It is inconsistent- because the CL is only seen as being part of the EL in specific circumstances

So you don't understand it then.

Playing for a team in the Champions League cup ties you for the Europa tournament because it is part of that tournament. The Europa is not part of the Champions League.

I've asked you once already to give me an example of this law being applied inconsistently. You didn't.
