Are you for real? The fact that Cole scored should show you otherwise - it may not have been the cleanest shot ever, but Cole did the most important thing he needed to do. If you can't see that, you may as well get out of this thread for good.

I half watched both games (with my head on swivel ) as well as eating and chatting, and as a result didn't see enough of either to form much of an opinion on them.

In fact, when I saw the CC highlights last night, it was almost like it was a different game to what I'd seen earlier in the pub - and because of that I know I wasn't paying good enough attention to either match to have a meaningful opinion, outside of the Torres goal being a sweetie.

But I managed to lose a footie bet - there were guys in the pub who wanted the screens for the matches swapped around (so they could see the Blackpool game on the screen they had the best view of), but I reckoned there'd be more goals in the Ipswich match (which was the bet) and was trying to stop the switch.

Cretin. The most important thing that Cole needed to do was to work the keeper. I.e. hit the target. Far more important to do that than get the sweetest connection possible and hit it wide of the post...

But that's still f**k all to do with whether the goal was a fluke or not. And it was a fluke. Luck worked in Cole's favour: without that luck there would have been no goal.

Kenny has an outstanding record - better than Fergie's on a proportional basis.

Grant has the 'merit' of seeing the last club he managed of being relegated, and not a lot else. OK, that was in very difficult circumstances, but it's hardly any sort of badge of honour all the same.

aye i was switching between the celtic and arsenal game in the first half, then watched all the celtic second half.

from the highlights though, ipswich thoroughly deserved it. could have had 2 or 3 more in the second half. the arsenal backline was horrendous!

reckon arsenal will probably take it at the emirates mind. wenger should be sacked if he can't win the clubs first trophy in 6 years with ipswich, west ham or blackburn in his way!

I'm glad you find yourself amusing, all I find funny is your idiocy.

Grant inherited a squad low on confidence, lacking in quality, and injury ravaged. The club is still heavily in debt (though the debt is being reduced) and he has had limited ability to make new (and quality) signings.

So i'm not suprised Grant is still there, nor am I calling for his head. Not after just 22 games.

yep, that was the impression I got from the highlights too, but not when I was half-watching the match live.

It's fairly regularly the case that the highlights give a mistaken impression of the game as a whole, and I'm wondering if that was the case last night - tho I didn't see enough of it to know if it was.

grant had a fairly good run at chelsea, and similar at portmouth. yeah they got relegated but you'd be the first to put that down to redknap. plus he got to the fa cup final. all of these are in very recent memory.

you can't possibly be judging kenny on what he did 20+ years ago? if we're judging kenny it should be on his 'recent' jobs. which were both a disaster and over a decade ago. he's got the job on romance and not much else. and i hope it'll be the death of them.

Wouldn't say that's quite true, he was at the club already so knows most of the in & outs, he'll put the club 1st, he's a cheap step in without it looking weak and is expendable if he fails.

I think Dalglish has given English football great service. Because of the speed of his departure, Liverpool ended up with Souness (and the rest is history). Were it not for him, only Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea would have won titles in the Premier League era. Spending tens of millions of pounds to win is hardly romantic, but the Blackburn story gives us all a wee bit of hope that our clubs can scale the league one day. And now he is doing everything in his power to ensure that Liverpool will win a league title next season. Because let's face it, if Newcastle can win the Championship, any big club can.

The job at Chelsea wasn't exactly a test in the circumstances there. Yes, he could have f**ked up badly and didn't, but he wasn't doing anything outstanding either. And while the pompey job wasn't easy, it didn't show him in any great light either.

Kenny's had four management jobs. Two he's had major success with (which may or may not be related to the resources at his disposal of course), while the two others were clubs in difficult circumstances at the time. While his last two certainly blot his record, they don't negate his successes.

He may or may not have success at LFC this time around. Time will tell, but two games 4 days into the job is much too early to judge given the situation at the club when he took over.
