The coefficient rules actually make quite a bit of sense when you read through them - at least I think so.

Isnt the SPL rated at the same level as the Eredivisie? Id say the Dutch league is far better in terms of having more quality sides but they are subject to the same rules at the Scots. The only reason their teams skip the 2 qualifiers is that the main teams have had more success in Europe in the past - thats fair isnt it?

The proven teams/teams that have put the effort in get the benefits and the lesser teams have to work for for the right to reap them - thats the way it should be.

put the effort in? how is being able to click your fingers and splash out 30 million and 100k wages a week putting effort in? that's disrespectful to all nations! i'd like to think that the likes of braga have put far far more effort in to get there than man utd and co.

Well that was rather enjoyable to watch last night (well for me anyway). If a team lets us play like Braga did last night, then probably only Barca are better than us in the world. The difficulty will come when we play teams that won't give us that space. We've still got an awful lot to prove but it's been an excellent start to the season.

Really impressed with Wilshere again last night. He's the kind of player that England have been crying out for for years now, a genuine creative midfielder. Fingers crossed he can fulfill his potential for both club and country.

Fabregas in the mood he was in last night was unplayable.

rangers win the league, they get into the champions league. how is that a bye? sorry, did celtic not challenge them or something? if they did come second, they still would have had to get past two qualifying rounds, the second being against a very decent team. so where is this bye you speak of?

It's a bye via the unfair competition that is the SPL.

And via the unfair competition that's the SPL, they get to get into the unfair competition that's the Chumps League each and every year.

Spot the difference?

FFS, plug your brain in.

no it's not a bye. there are two good teams in scotland. only one got automatic qualification. rangers had to earn first place. you f**king retard!

if they came second, they would have had to go through two teams. which would have been braga and then seville. again, you f**king retard.

The qualies are a part of Chumps.

They are in those qualies by default, a bye - via the unfair competition that is the SPL. And then they're complaining that the competition is unfair.

It's laughable for anyone with a working brain.

Good result last night, we would have had more than 4, but it seemed the whole team just switched off after the 4th. Happy that Josh McEachran made his debut, going to be one hell of a player in the future. Great to see our youngsters (sturridge, aanholt, kakuta) getting some game time in the champions league, sturridge took his goal really well, but the guy needs to work on his passing a bit. Yossi was absolutely amazing, Joe who?

Yuri had a bit of a so so game at left back mind.

i'm not sad enough to look back, but didn't you claim that spurs weren't in the champions league yet when they came 4th?

Yep, a pisstake.

the qualifiers are not the champions league. hence them being called qualifiers. you have to qualify to have the right to be in them.

Ahhh, right, so what some are saying here isa that the competition should be made even more unfair than it already is, by giving Rangers a bye into a later stage of the competition, ignoring the fact that they've often been too shit on the pitch to get that far by football.

It gets more laughable, not less.

no, what i'm saying is that rangers don't get a bye into the champions league. because they don't.

Yes they do.

They're guaranteed to be first or 2nd in the SPL.

Because they have that guarantee, it guarantees them a place in the Chumps. Yes, only the qualies, but if they're good enough to beat the shit teams in the qualies then they're in the groups.

It means they have to win games, hardly unfair in a football competition, eh?

shit teams?

Young Boys, Tottenham Hotspur, Braga, Sevilla, Werder Bremen, Sampdoria, Zenit St. Petersburg, Auxerre, Dynamo Kyiv, Ajax

yeah lots of shit there. and since when did 'bye' mean having to beat a good european team over two legs. think you need to get that dictionary out...

There's some shit in there as well.

But anyway, I see you think that Rangers shouldn't have to win football matches as a part of any football competition. I guess that's what happens when they get to get into the chumps without having taken part in a competition.

all i've said is that rangers don't get a bye into the champions league. which they don't. as i have proved.

But they do. They get to be in it by default of being Rangers, who have no competition for 1st or 2nd in Scotland.

And Smith said yesterday that they shouldn't have competition in the Chumps either.

It's f**king ridiculous.

i'll say this one more time, cos perhaps you've not read it. to get to the group stages they need to get the better of their competition, celtic!

if they fail to do that, then they have to play two good teams over two legs to get to the group stages.

bye - the position of a participant in a tournament who advances to the next round without playing

can you now see why you are being retarded?

and smith said that there was a huge gap. not that he didn't want comptetion. what smith wants is to be on a financial par with the big boys so that he can compete with them. huge difference.

I see you're still making 2+2 equal 5. See below.

So when he's doing what he's saying and there's a financial par in Scottish football, he's welcome to have what he wants IMO.

Until that time, it's ridiculous and laughable.

    • Ok, ok, I have done it! Not because of limitless upvoats but to support the Efestivals site.
    • She was/is 100% in the mix, but I don't know specific timings and how it relates to that interview. They've clearly gone after her, again.   It could be read in a number of ways - she was in negotiations at that point, she was talking about BST (and he's interpreted it, as we have, as Glastonbury). Who knows
    • So sad to see the news that John Douglas of the Trashcan Sinatras has died. They only released their latest album last week and it is wonderful.  So underrated and a member of such a great long running band that have meant so much to me over the last 40 years. https://trashcansinatras.com/blogs/news/john-douglas-1963-2026
    • listening to jamie east's podcast earlier he said that he'd heard fender is confirmed, and that as of 2 weeks ago Madonna hadn't been approached.
    • which would make that Graham Norton interview nonsense .... although obviously things change
