Someone has to stand next to this hypothetical group of people, and I'm certain they'd be annoying more people than would be 'enjoying' the monotonous droning sound when you're trying to listen to a band.

It won't happen anyway, but if anyone is blowing one of these things near me during a band I'm trying to listen to, they'll be requested not to.

Nobody has to stand next to a hypothetical group. But if an entire audience is annoyed by a couple of people with horns and nobody says a thing, an entire audience gets what it deserves. But that is my entire point - blowing it during a band? Ask them not to. Easy

Of course. Everyone will agree about the racial interpretation of differences between rugby and football. No others will see similarities between team sports, played with a ball, on fields of grass, supported by crowds in the 10s of thousands. None at all. I am the only one who can see those similarities.

No sorry you cant suggest there is some comparison between different audiences at british football and racing and the oppression of black people by apartheid, which is what the essential difference between football and rugby in south africa is.

Nobody has called anyone a racist. But it has been pointed out that in South ASfrica it is virtually impossible to discuss its culture wthout discussing race. And it has also been pointed out that those who find the noise annoying tend to be white, those that dont tend to be black, it being a part of south african black culture

Please tell me which of these is not true:

- football and rugby are both team games

- football and rugby are both team games that have South African national sides

- football and rugby are both played with a ball

- football and rugby are both played on fields of grass, that are often called pitches

All this talk of banning them from the WC and general outcry by the English media about them is starting to boil my piss. How dare the Africans play a f**king trumpet to create a BUZZ in the stadium. I think if people weren't moaning about it so much, you wouldn't notice it as much, for me it just blends into the background. The world cup is in South Africa and if they want to have their vuvuzelas then that is fine by me, I am sure if I was there I would have one to. Like someone said in England we have that f**king awful band so it is clear that the problem is not related to the location. Personally I would rather stop the band and that f**king trumpet from playing, but I can understand the annoyance of the constant drone to the players.

I wasn't worried about your awareness, I was pointing out mine which you have denied several times in this thread by your attempts to patronise. Having answered my questions you should now see where I was coming from. There are similarities between rugby and football as I have outlined. Far more than between football and darts or football and crown green bowling.

I disagree. They blare the whole way through every game. They aren't used to rally the team or emphasise any play that's going on on the field. They don't add to the atmosphere the way singing, chanting and cheering do.

Funny how this "tradition" isn't prevalent during South Africa's rugby games.
