That was mostly terrible. This World Cup hasn't been one of the best (in fact, it's been disappointing overall) but Italia 90 was far, far worse.

Well the only game from then that stands out was England - Cameroon, but at least thats one match.

Cant think of any excitement in this tournament really, a few memorable games, but nothing really got a buzz going.

Trying to sum up why Italia 90 was shit:

A very low number of goals

England were crap (yes, we made the semi finals but we made hard work of the games prior to that)

Maradona - lauded after 1986 - was absolute turd.

The worst World Cup Final ever

The Germans (well, Klinsmann) diving around all over the place

Frank Rijkard gobbing in Rudi Voeller's hair

Brazil were awful - they only just managed to beat Scotland FFS!

In fact, the most memorable moments of Italia 90 happened to be extremely shite football:

Cameroon beating the Argies was great, but it took a shit goal and the Argentines being kicked into the stands to see them off.

Roger Milla - he was only able to do that stupid dance by the corner flag because Rene Higuita completely f**ked up giving him the easiest goal of his life.

Platt's volley - if anyone can tell me a single moment other than that in the Belgium v England game, they're either lying or nerdier than Ralph.

Maradona crying - funny, yes. Worth enduring THAT final for? No way.

Gazza's tears - came from a booking. Hardly a classic moment in football history, was it? And it was a silly tackle, but even so, the German in question went down like he'd been shot (see previous list). So a harsh decision and play acting gave us the most 'iconic moment'.

Oh absolutely. But very, very few of them were from decent football!

The only one I can think of actually would be Baggio's amazing solo goal against (I think) the Czechs.

Also, if Gyans goal against USA makes the BBCs top 10 goals, it can't have been a good tournament for wonder strikes.

If the Netherlands score more than one goal then I think they'll win. Spain struggle to even score one goal!

I personally thought Howard Webb did a very good job in difficult circumstances. The BBC needed something to talk about and I dont know where they got that the Dutch should have been down to 6 men - what sort of over-officious w*nker sends someone off for two half-bad tackles 20 minutes in to a World Cup final? The De Jong one was accidental and rightly got a yellow card for dangerous play and nothing more, I got the feeling that if it was 2-2 at the interval then the number of fouls wouldn't have got a mention.

I'm a little disappointed in Spain winning, thoroughly deserved tho it was, the treatment that SWP got in Madrid and Luis Aragones remarks about Henry still stick in my mind, similar to when Italy won it.

Sometimes in tournament football the best team dont always win, today the right team won and spain are in my opinion the best team in the world. There has been some criticsm about the way holland played however with the calibre of player the dutch have, i dont see how else they could have approached the game. If england had won playing the sameway the pundits would be delighted.

I personally didnt think the officials did a good job. The spanish were worried when he was appointed that he was too soft, I think he bottled a few decisions. How they missed the deflection off the spanish players which should have resulted in a corner is beyond me.
