So its a pretty shitty 40th year line up im sure we can all agree except the glasto fanboys and girls - the Eavis' are full of shit and can see them struggling with the 2011 ticket sales after talking absolute rubbish for the past year.

Some of the bookings have been a bit strange !

And considering Muse are putting themselves about a bit this summer , they should have gone

for someone else I reckon.

And I love Muse !

Don't get me wrong.. I do think there is some good bands playing the line up this year.. but i was expecting more OOMPH if that makes sense with it being the 40th anniversairy and if im honest the TBA for the Pyramid was my dead set hope however now this is dwindled.. Will have an amazing time anyway but last years line up was more impressive to me personally than this year!

Shut up you tit! There's plenty of amazing bands on and I assume by Glasto fanboys you mean people who don't live their lives by the NME gospel?

If you want that kind of acts there's always Leeds or V where i'm sure you'll have a great time.

There're more than enough brilliant bands on and when there isn't it's not exactly going to be boring is it?

:P:P:P

That Arctic Monkeys fella has a point. First off I think it's a fantastic lineup, no complaints. But they HAVE been saying huge bands that could headline will be opening the festival. Everyone was expecting something amazing and it sounds like they're not gonna get it. So they did lie and over-emphasise how special this 40th anniversary was going to be. I wish people would understand this point (even if, in this case, it was put across terribly) and not just defend the Eavis' as invincible, call anybody who criticises the line-up a tit and tell them to sell their ticket :P

Also I wonder who the band she was talking about is? The one who could headline but is now playing higher up? Faithless? No way would they open. No other bands are anywhere near worthy.

I think it depends on your point of view really. As I mentioned before the Eavii need to make a finite amount of cash go a helluva distance and rely on the good will of many big artists to play for a lot less than they normally would.

That said there're at least 4 or 5 bands a day on the main stages that I really want to see and i'll no doubt find the same amount again through random exploration which at the end of the day is what makes this place unique from all the other major "festivals" for me.

Muse I was quite happy about as I missed them in 2004 and at Reading in 2006(?) so was quite looking forward to seeing them this year until the eighties fan in me saw the Pet Shop Boys were on at the same time. Doh!

Not sure what you mean? 7 or 8 time slots across all stages?

Going from stage to stage over 11-12 hours or so a day it's fairly easy to find 4 or 5 bands worth seeing.

Of course that depends on personal taste but having looked again I can see 11 bands on the Friday lineup I wouldn't mind seeing. Some of these are clashes unfortunately but there's still plenty of choice.

I think Coldplay would be an awful choice to open any stage. I'm not a fan but they're at their best with all the usual pomp and ceremony. I actually think they'd be lost on a big stage at midday without the lightshows etc.

I think we can feel a bit letdown to be honest. There are loads of great acts but not as many as were promised or the "band from every year" they promised.

Also after the hopes of stones, led zep, to have scissor sisters and muse on the sat is really average

Sorry I thought you meant The Pyramid , thats what I was referring to.

U2

Faithless

Muse

Dizzee

Without me re checking the line up , thats all that stands out for me and I have to say only

Faithless are a def , the rest a maybe.

But Saturday with exception of PSB and Ms Nash and Heep I think I will be at Other Stage

all day !

I agree but I just think the unconditional defense of the lineup and the Eavis' previous hype has to stop.

I think u2 have better support bands on their tours than whats going on before em

on the Friday.

Take Dizzee and it looks pretty poor imo !

That's fine, but people shouldn't be shot down for saying the opposite.

Also I'll reiterate. I love the line-up! Muse, Stevie Wonder, Seasick Steve, Ray Davies, Flaming Lips, Hot Chip, Florence & the Machine, Stranglers, George Clinton and Parliament/Funkadlic, Cribs, National, Kate Nash, LCD, MGMT, Breakestra, Grizzly Bear, Bombay Bicycle Club, Rodrigo Y Gabriela, Jamie T, Foals, Broken Social Scene, Gang of Four, Stornoway, Strange Boys, Blood Red Shoes. There's too much for me to see! Also I have been before, I'm not sure if you were referring to me when you said "I seriously don't think Glastonbury is the festival for you", I can assure you that even if there's nobody I wanted to see Glastonbury is most certainly for me :P

wow so the same eavii who promised a 'potential dangerously big band' on the Park last year have once again provided false info, it still shocks me people take there word as gospel, no one is going to say theyve got a worse lineup than before for the 40th year!

What is the point of a surprise if they then reveal it and it is no longer a surprise?

Just because it has been stated that one band will not be opening the pyramid, lets have some faith people, I would much prefer it to stay as it is with nothing else revealed and then to find out when we are there that someone is going to open the pyramid...

Although I love the banter that flows on these boards, I feel that once everyone is there and realised how amazingly lucky we are as a country to hold such a world renowned festival, everything will be forgotten and we will come together to praise the effort and commitment of the organisers for putting on such an amazing spectacle.

The Eavii aren't stupid, they know what makes a great festival - I honestly feel something amazing is going to be happening at Glasto this year, not necessarily the opening slots, not the fact that we will get a chance to watch the world cup, not the fact that there is hundreds of acres to explore and see things that otherwise we wouldnt think of doing in our usual day to day lives but something that will cement the memory of the 40th anniversary!!

So open up people, one 'rumour' (dont forget, its a rumour that we all pulled together) that has not transpired does not necessarily mean a failure of the festival, its a festival of performing arts so the music is just one portion of it, it will give everyone a chance to experience other things such as the circus fields, comedy/cabaret tents - these are what are going to make your glasto and its all about making the festival what you want of it and yopur own experiences, not get on the band wagon of hate for the line up, trust me, it will be an amazing year come rain/sun/mud/bands/drink/campfires etc....BRING IT ON!!!! :P

I appreciate it's not to other people's tastes, but I can't accept it's poor because the range of stuff on offer is almost ridiculous. There should be something out there for everyone - if there isn't, I'd advise listening to something new to get you in the mood. If there's still nothing to tempt you, I seriously don't think Glastonbury is the festival for you.

A lineup where you aren't familiar with many of the acts is not the same as a poor lineup. :P

I suppose I am lucky - loads of bands I know and love are playing. But I daresay there are some bands I'll come across for the first time this year whose work will be added to my collection.

As for the Eavises - they say 'this will be the best yet' every single year. Woe betide them for bigging up their own festival...! :P
