Pyramid Stage Opening Bands

I think that there are 2 things at play here.

1) Emily has stated that they will be making an announcement every Tuesday. That's 8 announcements to go. Some will be big acts in lower down slots no doubt for the 40th and the Glasto-Friendly bands will likely be included (Coldplay for sure, Radiohead/Thom Yorke have good odds).

2) If they did rush the line up press release following a leak, it would be savvy to play around with it a bit to keep some surprises in for later. Changing the running order at a later date seems far fetched, but what if the running order they have announced has been tweaked and the actual running order differs slightly? As a bit of a sneaky f**ker myself, that's what I'd have done to keep my powder dry when faced with an info leak. "Yeah, the leaks right and here's the rest (not quite)."

TBA usually means they will let us know before the start

'Special guest' usually means it gets leaked before the start!

We have no less than 11 TBA's on the main stages, and three special guests two in the park, one avalon

here is my deductions;-

we have squeeze and andy williams , will young yet to be announced officially but previously TBC.. Squeeze / will young may fit on avalon stage as 'special guest'; I guess Andy Williams has dropped out, or was never planning to play anyway - maybe it was record company spin to capitalize on his greatest hits album release last year - certainly would be sunday if anything, but he's disappeared from e-festivals rumours

Robert plant is still a 'strong rumour' (I guess saturday mid afternoon pyramid)

Chemical Brothers look a cert for other stage another strong rumour

Coldplay

Blondie/pink

Rolf harris

could be the openers... still rumours, rolf as he as good as self confirmed, coldplay have strong links with the eavis's and glasto and can be the only band that could keep things quiet because of their ties; they do have promotion going on and new material;

blondie or pink would be perfect for the now popish looking saturday and both touring.

carl barat is onsite, i guess he will get up with Pete doherty in the park acoustic set, not technically the libertines so avoiding exclusivity?

also I could see madness in the park (chas and dave did it), and the pixies or elbow could open the sunday at the other stage. Gorillaz may even play the park as a special guest

All of which will be good news, lets hope

Libertines for one of the park slots, I would presume.

There seems to be an awful lot of expectation about coldplay. I've seen the same in years gone by and not materialise, so we shall see. Would be nice, last time I saw them was early afternoon, glastonbury, week before Yellow was released and Chris Martin told the crowd "this is the only time you'll see us this early at glastonbury, you are lucky to see us before we go f*cking bon jovi massive".

I point blank refuse to allow myself to get my hopes up over anything I don't read on the official site as an announcement. Last years utter disappointment (for me) with the lineup, after getting my hopes up on rumours will not be repeated!

With the announcement of Dead Weather I wouldn't put my hopes up of these big acts appearing

Just seems too unbelievable that bands as big as those rumored will play these slots, why not take later in the evening slots?

I've come to the decision to accept medium level bands to be announced...

Are we thinking the Dead Weather have the TBA under Shakira or the opening slot?

I'm hoping they're opening and we get Robert Plant later in the day.

Then maybe Coldplay opening the Friday and I dunno, Madness on the Sunday?

    • Rotten communication. Actually god awful. Posting sporadically on IG, closing Mordor only to reopen and cause some serious carnage. Left the festival as it got too much for my 16year old daughter. She was devastated about Alex G and Mac…but TV girl could have saved it. Took us until 1220 and already home to find out they might/are playing. Pish.    and on another note, this festival has lost its bastard soul. Gone are the wee tents with local sellers selling vinyl, t shirts etc, now you can buy a 50 f**king eur official T-shirt. The ar*e is truely out of this event now. I went to Porto for the first time last year and it was fab. I love Barcelona and the line up is always stacked, but this festival is a corporate loss take. Hopefully a better day tomorrow.
    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
