Magnificent collection of songs and a tremendous storyteller.

Good solo but great with a big band for the soaring sax solo in Year of The Cat. (Comes in at about 5.00 but worth playing through for - one of the best sax solos of all time).

And he's such a nice guy too.

One of Britain's greatest ever singer/songwriters (of a folkie leaning). Beautiful sensitive songs, a lot in a historical setting.

Schooled in the world of folk clubs where you can't hide and have to establish a rapport with the audience.

Like Ray Davies, the chat between the songs is fascinating and entertaining.

Became a great wine expert and moved to the US where he earns a very good living being paid vast amounts by ignorant but wealthy yanks to advise them on how to stock their wine cellars.

One of that group of performers who has nothing to prove but just plays music for the sheer fun and pleasure of it.

I was 17 in 1969 and my girlfriend { at that time } had just bought Love Chronicles so I know that album backwards.

For those who may not be aware Jimmy Page and Richard Thompson ( listed as Mervyn Prestwyck ) also played on that album.

He also played at Glastonbury in 1970 but at that time Glastonbury was unknown to anyone in Scotland and we never made the journey down from Glasgow and as far as I am aware he was not due to perform.

I have been a keen fan ever since and with any luck I should be able to see him.

If memory serves me correct he did play Glastonbury in 1995 but due to shift times I did not see the full set { pain in the arse but that is the price you have to pay being a volunteer for the WBC }

I will be there but this time I will see the full set as I am allowed a lot more freedom now and its highly likely I will be working in the WBC Village bar and if so will make certain I am working a late that night { which will not start until Midnight }

It sort of make me feel my age when people say "Ow wow, my mum/dad will be really pleased/still have his stuff on vinyl etc"

But one of my joys as an oldie is introducing a new generation to music that they might not have encountered.

As a starter for people new to Al Stewart, apart from the very accessible Year of The Cat, I'd suggest Roads to Moscow a beautifully crafted account of the Second World War from the perspective of a Russian Soldier.

Sorry the quality isn't very good on this you might be able to find better.

No offence taken. I'm actually really glad to be an oldie in that I grew up as a teenager in the late sixties in what was probably one of the most exciting times for music.

I remember seeing acts now classed as Legends in the early stages of their careers when they were at their most creative. Stuff now performed as classics I remember seeing and hearing when it was fresh and new.

Mind you every generation probably thinks that. Hopefully there will be people who are teenagers today going to Glasto in 40 years time telling the young 'uns "I saw them back in 2010 before they were famous."

Amazing! :P Al Stewart is one of my dad's favourite artists, so my sister and I grew up with his music. I remember trying to track down 'Zero She Flies' on CD for my dad's 50th birthday, to no avail - boo.

So excited to see him live!
