Went to see them in Liverpool a couple of months back. Rolled out all the hits as you would expect but classics such as "I travel" and "Alive and Kicking" still sounded great.

Don't you forget about me, Nah, Nah Nah Nah Nah, would be great singalong about Teatime slot as the cider kicks in!

one of my guilty pleasures...

i think their '95 glasto set got a bit of slag in the press only because with the advent of the Oasis/Pulp/Blur BritPop phenomenom at the time, it was 'musically correct' to slag off the big 80's bands. even Nick Hornby and Irvine Welsh added to things by taking the piss in their books as well. But they're still a great live act and I'd definitely catch them if they played

i think back to a warm sunny late june day, 1986, milton keynes bowl. Simple Minds, The Cult, The Waterboys, and others...

doubt it very much - Jim has just done his first solo album.

That aside, do we really want an act who I'm 98% sure mimes much of the songs? That's the only reason I can think of for why his voice goes from normal to awful at the same points in the songs. :P

i was waiting for the inevitable neil response, as i'd remembered that Simple Minds and Springsteen were his 2 favorite acts from the 80's ... and i recalled your past accusations that he wasnt singing live...

It's nowt to do with like or dislike. :P

It's the impression a big number of people got when watching Simple Minds at a fest a few years ago.

i heard about the solo record, but I just checked and see that they are playing festival dates in early June and early July, so the band is still gigging come summertime

Jim is doing some solo shows before then. The simple minds mailer says there's a track to hear on the SM website.

its very odd, i always cringe when hearing them, i always lump them in with Deacon Blue, Runrig etc, all that is wrong with scottish pop music, but the up here media treats them as "yeah they are so cool" "they are legends", when really all you want to do is cringe. but different things for different folks i suppose

Simple Minds preceeding Pixies worked a treat at Isle of Wight last year.

All that was wrong about the 80's followed by the screaming antidote, took me right back.

Havent got glasto tickets. Still hoping to get them in the resale but absolutely love seeing simple minds live so will get tickets for delamore forest which is the following week. Saw Paul Weller there and it was a great venue. Dalby forest would have been more convenient but clashes with glasto and still hoping, hoping, hoping that will get tickets in the resale.

    • RIP Roy Hattersley
    • Proper special gig tonight. They won't mean much to most people, but The Dogs D'Amour were one of the most significant bands of my youth.   Tyla, yer main man of said band, was playing in Birkenhead tonight. Not many there, but it was going fine. Then he decided he didn't like the smoke and the flashing lights so suggested moving the gig to the beer garden. Off we all went, and it was magical. Like having your favourite musician play in your garden. I absolutely loved it.   Before:     After:
