I Am Kloot.

On the recommendations of some on here whose tastes in music I identify with, I've been spotifying Kloot. Been listening to various tracks for a while and it's decent enough but nothing I've heard has grabbed me yet and I'm thinking it may never do. However I've heard that they are a great live experience. So my questions are:

1) which songs should I make a point of listening to (in case I AM missing something)?

2) are they worth seeing live?

3) if the answer to (2) is yes, are they likely to pop into Pilton this summer?

I don't know what those youtube clips are, but Kloot are quite fantastic, both on record and live. Johnny Bramwell has a voice that acts as an instrument on it's own, with some terrific lyrics thrown in for good measure.

If you go and watch Kloot live and don't come away feeling that little bit happier with life, I would say you need to get your ears syringed, or not wear such tight pants.

Some tracks to recommend (I daresay these might feature in the youtube clips I can't see):

Because (the best Kloot track there is - FAR better live than on record IMHO)

To You

The Great Escape

Ferris Wheels

86 TVs

Storm Warning

Over My Shoulder

Proof

I Believe

Morning Rain

By The Sea

Chaperoned

Cuckoo

Same Deep Water As Me

Stop

Twist

Avenue Of Hope

From Your Favourite Sky

I will have missed many out.

In fact, you might as well get all their albums because they're all mighty fine.

I haven't heard anything about their new album, tour, or if they'll be anywhere near Glastonbury this year. Their website is shit and hardly ever updated, I've seen nothing on their myspace site to suggest otherwise either.

It's not impossible they'll play, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

They are (IMHO of course) the best kept secret in British music and are the most criminally underrated and undervalued act I can think of.

I concur with everything LW has said, but I have a little more hope that they will play Glastonbury than he does (blind optimism perhaps).

I saw them recently in London and they played a handful of new songs. One of which was so wonderful I genuinely think this year could see them increase in popularity in the UK massively (they are much more popular in continental Europe). Time will tell.

Oh and LW - when you get on a PC where you can access youtube check out the link in my earlier post, it was of the greatest performance of Because anywhere on the net.

It is really annoying as their used to be a Dutch website that had loads of full live gigs on it, one of which was a truly fabulous Kloot set. (there was also an amazing, wonderful, fantastic Walkmen set on there) but sadly due to copywrite laws the website was shut down. A massive shame. You couldnt download off there so I dont see what the problem was, it was great exposure for the bands. Gutted.

Damn I didnt know that, but last year they played some festival in Clapham and he had broken his hand and they did get a replacement guitarist in (my memory is hazy but it might have been someone related to one of the band members, maybe even Johnny's cousin or something) and you would not believe the shit johnny was giving him all throught the set. It was funny as hell but I felt sorry for the fellow, he looked unbelieably nervous. He did an ok job but it wasnt the same.

He can be a narky so and so though (as evidenced in 2004!) so I bet all these injuries are sustained whilst scrapping up in manchester. He's old enough to know better!

With or without glasto, they will defo tour the new album in the summer, I'm sure of it. Kloot gigs dont tend to be rowdy so I'm sure an enormous pregnant lady will be just fine!

Oh yes, I'm sure they'll tour. But I have all appendages crossed they'll surprise me and play The Park or the Acoustic Stage (or - better yet - The Avalon Stage) this year.

Did you see the programme about them when they did Moolah Rouge? They played a few tracks live in the studio and Johnny was interviewed by a chap called John Robb (possibly THE shittest interviewer EVER but it's very funny) in between songs.

It's very good. We caught it on Channel M (via Sky) just before Moolah Rouge was released. That show contains THE best version of At The Sea I have ever heard.

goddammit no! I didnt see that. I will scour the internet and try and track it down.

At the sea is gorgeous. Annoyingly short though

I've just heard that apparently, Johnny Bramwell has broken his arm. I don't know how, or how badly, but if so, that's their tour f**ked unless they bring in another guitarist.

My main reason for such pessimism when it comes to Kloot and Glastonbury is the amount of time it's been since they played. And it's not like they haven't been touring during Glastonbury time. I can't help thinking that Johnny's 'stage rage' in 2004 hasn't done them any favours.

Johnny's arm was in a cast when they played B&J Sundae on the Common last summer they played with a stand in guitarist that day. I've seen them since then and Johnny was fine.

The 2004 rage incident didn't stop them playing in '05 so I don't think it'll have that much of an effect on future bookings. I expect they'll wait until the album is out next year to come back to Glastonbury though, to be honest.

i think it was 2003 that i first saw kloot in the new bands tent ..been in to them ever since , saw them in london at the end of last year at the relentless garage (fkin mazin :P ) . and we were down the front for kloot 2004 scorching hot day and he hoond his guitar at somone off stage because they were cut off .

i would love to see them at glasto this year .. a broken arm takes about 6-7 weeks to heal and we are 11 weeks away ... (im no doc , just going from my own exp ) fingers crossed they are one of my most fave live bands

Extra verse in that version mate. And a little bit slower. It's miles better than the album version IMHO.

I think that programme might have been bundled in as an extra DVD on the enhanced version of the Moolah Rouge album, which annoyed me because I bought it on release with a limited edition sleeve. But it didn't have anything else on it.

If you find out how, can you let me know because I'd love to have that version of At The Sea on mp3!

Off the top of my head, the tracks they play on the documentary are:

Ferris Wheels

One Man Brawl

Because

Twist

Someone Like You

Even The Stars (what has happened to this song?! Really hope it's on the new album - amazing track)

Only Role In Town

Life In A Day

At The Sea

I think that's the lot.

    • I wonder if he's going to get into the States for the second match against England. Seems a bit weird having players missing for certain matches but not others as the world cup moves around.
    • Quite lucky as I’ve no interest in Halsey at all so I’ve got time for some food and drink before getting in there.   But yeah… thinking I’ll have to leave early to get a decent spot for Gorillaz
