Silent Disco Questions

Never actually got round to going to the silent disco... so....

I have some questions:

  • Is it coming back for 2010?

  • Is there just one or more than one?

  • Where is it located (i have a hazy recollection of seeing a big queue for one in the park maybe?)

  • What times does it open?

  • Is it open on the wednesday / thursday?

  • Is there a bar inside?

Cheers to anyone who can help!

:P

I have some questions:

  • Is it coming back for 2010? I hope so and tbh I'd imagine it would be back as their website lists 2010 dates up to April so far

  • Is there just one or more than one? I'm sure last year there was 2. There's def one in The Park area as I was pulling shapes in it twice last year and I think there's another up at the Dance Village

  • Where is it located (i have a hazy recollection of seeing a big queue for one in the park maybe?) See above. I didnt wait long at all getting in on the Thurs night but on the Sun the que was massive and it chucked it down outside :P

  • What times does it open? Not sure on the opening or closing times tbh

  • Is it open on the wednesday / thursday? Yes

  • Is there a bar inside? Not that I remember. I just brought my own drink in with me. There's a seperate toilet area outside the tent for us silent disco'ers though.

Cheers to anyone who can help!

:P

You pay, think its a tenner, deposit. They give you a set of headphones and you go and shake yer ass on the dance floor along with all the other people. There is a DJ who plays through the headphones. Get your deposit back when you leave.

To outsiders it looks odd as f*ck lol :P as there is now music to them just dancing bodies haha

Last year there was also one outside Joe Bananas, near Williams Green, or toilet disco as we called it due to the proximity to some long drops, nice.

On the Thursday last year, the Dance village and the the Park versions closed at 03.00AM and 04.00AM. Which I thought at the time and still do was a little odd.

According to GlastoEarth, both the Joe Bananas one and the Park one are back this year.

I've not been in. But last year we could hear a massed crowd singing Wonderwall at the tops of their voices, with no backing. It wasn't until the following day it twigged that it had come from the "silent" disco.

If you sing along loudly does that get you thrown out?

I tried the silent disco for the first time last year. Best. Thing. Ever.

Was anyone else in there during the crazy Dutch DJ's set? He was playing some really random stuff and the whole thing was going out live on some radio station in Holland. It all seemed totally bizarre.

The only thing that would make it better would be if there was a bar inside. I'll come better prepared with beer this year.

@Orbital - you don't get thrown out for singing, that's sort of the point of the place!

@Benchbuddha - there's no deposit, just some nice people at the door who give you the headphones and explain how to work them.

For me the most bizarre thing was having two DJ's to switch between. Most of the time it would seem like I'd be listening to one and the whole tent would be listening to the other. It sort of becomes a competition between DJs to attract more listeners.

The silent discos are shockingly bad. Awful music, massive queues, no bar, no toilets. So you queue for ages to get in, listen to some god awful crap through useless headphones then as soon as you want a beer or a slash you have to leave then queue up again.

Worst invention ever.

The silent discos are great, I have never queued more than 5 minutes. It is certainly a bizarre experience the first time you go in and you take your headphones off and just look around at everybody jumping about in silence.

Never noticed the toilets, probably would have been a ghost wee anyway. :P:P

I just like the idea of it - am always certain I really DO sound like a singing sensation when I can't hear myself over the music, is only when i take the headphones off and carry on singing I realise that singing sensation was Milli Vanilli.

I ended up at the one at the Park last year on the Friday night. Yep a bit of a queue but well worth it! I even managed to loose my voice through singing! Try explaining to people you lost your voice at the SIlent Disco!
