Could dizzee rascal ever headline the pyramid stage?

Well he is rumoured to be headlining the Other stage this year and if he produces andother album half as good as Tongue N Cheek I could see him headlining a friday night slot some time after the fallow year (not too soon after though - 2014/15?)

You're right he does deserve more credit than I have given.

I am just willing him to be fad cause he sounds bad to me. I like the guy's personality and think he entertains well, he is appealing somehow and I like a couple of his tunes, but he still sounds bad.

I like some rap but I still think a good sounding voice is important in music, I don't get Jay Z either, his voice is only a slight improvement on Dizzee's. Florences voice on the Brits the other night was exceptional but then Dizzee " nah nah nahnah nn nah nah" inbetween was awful.

That's it though! :P

He's got a lighter touch than more conventional urban artists. There's a hint of fun, which has a broader appeal than a moodier style which will appeal to purists.

In interviews, he comes across well. Someone like Jay-Z is undoubtedly very very smart, very literate when he chooses to be (his brush off of the Noel thing showed class), but Dizzee has a more down to earth thing going on, which appeals to Brits more I think.

Well, that's my pontification... (which is admittedly not worth alot :P )

We reckon Dizzee wil headline the other stage on friday night and go head to head with U2. Im open minded about him. He has been around a rather long time now and certainly has enough hits for the headline slot. MY wife would certainly be there in a contest between U2 and him and she is an old girl now!

He's steadily declining. Thankfully this means he will never get near to a headline slot on the pyramid.

I agree with the earlier poster. He is just a bit of a novelty act. The fact that the novelty song "Bonkers" is his biggest hit says it all.

File under: a bit of harmless fun, but not to be taken seriously.

I saw Dizzee Rascal play live at Sonar in 2007 ago and can't say that I was that impressed, it was the worst kind of the lowest common denominator live hip hop around and not a touch on the Beastie Boys who also played that night. That was three years ago and I'm pretty sure his live stature has grown somewhat since then so yeah I don't see why he can't headline Glastonbury.

Thing is I like the guy - me saying 'no' isn't because I think he's rubbish or any kind of elitism or anything.

Tbh I just think 'Tongue 'n' Cheek' may have been a huge step forward for him commercially, but it seemed as big a step back for him creatively...relied too much on Van Helden, Calvin Harris' and other DJs and I thought they outshone him throughout.

For me, another album like that would make him less likely to headline the Pyramid in many ways.

:P

You and St00ka should get together and curate your own thing, the line-up would be intriguing

"I want NDubz for Saturday"

"I want Bodycount"

"Co-headline?"

"You got it bro', get efestivals on the line and tell them its booked"

    • Yes, she can just do stadiums and she's probably one step behind when you could have anyway. How Reading works this year though both top two are headlining with Chase probably more a closer due to darkness after Florence. I don't see Wolf Alice in the part of a top 6. If they go back to pure headliner and subs then yes.

    • Wolf Alice are supporting O-Rod in America soon, right? So yeah, I think as a 1/2 that would work. But equally was there any talk of her doing more touring next year beyond her 10 nights at the O2 or whatever it is?   Certainly, I think WA might take a year off themselves in 2027.
    • They didn't. They pushed for Spain to be kicked out of it over this Cueta thing, although as is pointed out by Spanish experts, Cueta is not in Schengen.
