Valentines day

Theres loads of stuff on facebook this morning - people going on about how much they love their husbands and wives and stuff. one of them says "i love my wife more today than yesterday but less than tomorrow" what does that even mean? Vacuous bullshit taken straight off a locket from Elizabeth Duke.

Is it even possible to love someone more today than yesterday? surely you either love them or you don't. Does that mean he only loved her a little bit when they got married. In which case should they have got married in the first place. Is it just luck that he loves her more today than he did yesterday, does it work the other way round? i dislike you more today than yesterday but i'm fairly sure i'll dislike you a whole lot more tomorrow.

Apart from anything else most husbands and wives live together and therefore can tell each other via other means than facebook?:rolleyes:

Obviously if i was being showered with love i would be less cynical

I'm so glad my girlfriend doesn't like it either. Today is just another day for me but one on which my bank account seems to benefit, compared to my mates anyway.

Plenty of blokes in Boots yesterday buying two valentines cards. What a glorious time of year.

Yeah :D

"Okay, people, we need to cook up a new holiday for the summer. Something with gifts, cards, assorted gougeables."

"How about something religious? We had great penetration last spring with Christmas Two."

"Oh, I know. Spendover, like Passover, less talk, more presents."

"No, no, no! No, it's gotta be warm and fuzzy. Some like, um, "Love Day", but not so lame."

"Happy Love Day, everyone!"

I cant abide all this commercialism surrounding everything now!

The restaurants will be chokka block the neet--florists will be getting Secuicor round to escort em to the bank..and the Tesco Reduced Section will be getting some stick the morrer with all their reduced Valentine shite!

Personally---I made an investment in Heart Foundation shop of 2 guineas and bought one of those hearts which you write on and they stick it in the window.Very nice too!

I also bought a Feng Shoe papmer kit from the same emporium for £1.99 (£11.99 new) and found a box of chocs in the cupboard from Xmas.

I also made a Val Card. I took a Xmas card and covered it with pics of blokes I cut out of magazines..a college sort of thing..all overlapping and intertwinned and inside I used a picture of deposed President Moubarak as a template to make a silouette... the implication being that she can have the pick of all these fancy blokes...but who is she really gonna pick..hoping it would be President Moubarak/Me.

It was also my intention to collect some twigs off some shrubs in the woods..which are bright red, and put a bit of glitter on the tips...but the card took longer than expected..and it got dark.... :(

But--either way... she has seemed pleased enough.

However.. VD should really be about expressing a secret love for someone eh..telling someone you have feelings for em eh.

Tell yer-- there will be a lot of trouble throughout the country today..love rats, arguments and all that....

i dont understand why everyone is so f**king cynical?

you're nice to people on their birthdays

you're nice to family at christmas

what is wrong with being overly romantic on valentines day?

i've surprised my girlfriend with Gorrilaz tickets, LCD soundsystem tickets, disney on ice tickets, meals, cinema trips and random gifts throughout the year...

i do it cause i love her

so when our anniversary, christmas, her birthday or valentines day comes up, i go overboard

because its nice

life is a lot more enjoyable when you stop whinging about things and just enjoy things for the sake of them

it's probably cos some people feel pressured into it and will spend money that they can't really afford. and for what?

fair enough if you want to do it and can afford it or do it on the cheap/free.

but everyones situation is different. as you say, you've got christmas, birthdays, anniversarries etc, so why do we need another set one in the calendar?

I gave in and bought her a card, we've said that we weren't getting each other anything, but if she does get me a card and I don't get her one then I look like a right tit.

Managed to find a modest card that's kind of cute and doesn't use the word 'love', as I think that's kind of tacky when you haven't said that to each other yet. Also not going to use that word in the card.

Zooey,

Happy Valentine's Day

Yours sexually,

brighteyes x

p.s. suck on this:

*small drawing of my schlong and balls* [not actually a drawing, just that sentence written out]

I'm well good at this relationship malarkey.

edit: @nightcrawler.

I don't agree with you but I totally see your point of view.

I find my life perfectly fun without having to subscribe so something like Valentines day. I usually spend Valentines with my girlfriend anyway but it's nice not to have the emphisis being on buying things for her. I like the idea of making things for people or gestures of love, but it's so commercial for such a large portion of the population. Token gestures like cards and heart shaped chocolates seem tacky and insincere to me.

I can be cynical about that and still have fun on days like this! :)

This is what valentines day is for in my opinion. An excuse to get brave and let someone know you fancy them.

I know I love my boyfriend and I know that he loves me, spoiling me doesn't show this.

Each to their own though of course, I'm just talking about my personal feelings on the subject. It doesn't offend me if others want to express their love in different ways to what's right for me and the boy cheese.

:lol::lol: Top notch stuff from the Geordie casanova. There's more romance in that card you made than in all the overpriced commercial rubbish in clintons put together. If I was a lass, i'd be swooning.

We had a great night last night. Cooked some amazing food, got pleasently trollied & listened to some music, in front or the fire. It was gorgeous, as it always is. We swapped brilliant, totally un valentinesy cards. He gave me my favourite flowers, I gave him something fabulous from a charidee shop.

    • I am very possibly wrong about this but I do think that the pitch you get allocated appears to be related to your time of arrival, (i.e. you get the next one available) rather than the price you paid for a small, medium or large pitch.  They all appear to be the same size to me.
