jonnyx
I’ve never done a poll before. So this might not work at all. But it’s an attempt to get a clearer picture of general opinion of our potential headliners.
mcalli2008
Kasabian - One of the best live bands I've seen, and get better every time I see them, 3 fantastic albums.. KoL - Very overrated, and were poor at Reading last year - old stuff is good though!
jordanuk90
KOL - Poor Choice because they have played V and Leeds in the past 2 years with no new material even they said at Leeds that they're sick of it Kasabian - Good band to play poor choice to headline they are the perfect warm up band 2nd headline slot is perfect for them they can get a crowd pumped up butnot strong enough to end a set
thetime
went to glasto 08, leeds 09 when kol headlined didnt see them either time. So wouldnt watch them at v if they headlined. kasabian are without doubt one of the worst bands ive ever come accr1oss in my life, I would rather slash my throat with multiple sharp objects than watch them. very very weak and predictable headliners if the rumours are true, but to be fair most headliners at festival lately have been unispiring to say the least. r/l headlienrs are goign to be unispiring aswel so its not a v problem. they will sell shit load of tickets with kol and kasabian headlining just not my cup of tea. luckysalt
OK. To address the points above V book the festival assuming you aren't going to other festivals so if you have thats tough for you cus they ain't gunna know where you've been or what you've seen Kasabian haven't played V for 3 years, thats quite a while in festival land, The Killers were back after 2 years, Oasis after 4, Foos after 5, Muse after 4 of the past 2 years headliners, so Kasabian are around the average, kinda, except for the fact they have never headlined before Now V has picked up the same headliner as TITP which often happens, Kasabian are very popular and im sure a lot of people who have seen them on their tour won't mind seeing them again but if they do it will have been 10-12 months since that tour when they play V. They album out since last time, and they are now bumped up to headliner status in the land of UK festival hence why they headlining TITP too. I must admit though to me, they're getting worse live as time goes on, but to many they aren't personnal perferance and all that, but I preferred them in that past to the set where they take from all three albums these days, but regardless IMO good pick, always gone down well at V before, long enough gap since they last played, new material since last time they played and put on a good show Kings of Leon The biggest Indie band out there at the moment They played V two years ago yes but before that they hadn't since 2004, so 3 times in 7 years isn't that bad Last time they played V the last album they released wasn't out and thus they played very little from it, I think they did two songs, sex on fire and one other. So to V that album is something they haven't played there, plus they have said they aim to release another album end of 2010, so in theory they will have even more new material that a V crowd haven't seen before [im going on the theory you haven't seen them live since their last performance at V] On top of that, their performance at V looks to be a UK festival appearence, it may be one of very few shows for them in 2010 like the V performance was for Muse in 2008. Kings of Leon when they're up for it, are one of the best live bands, their performance at Reading 2007 showed that [i only saw on TV mind] but I saw them on tour December that year and they were fantastic, come 2008 I saw them three times live in person and their performance were becoming worse ieach time, basically they were falling out with each other which is well documented and bored. Come V 2010 they will have had a long break and will be re-energised and hopefully back to their playing best So to summarise, both are great booking by V, in terms of ticket sales and performance from the artists

thetime
Point 1 Kol are not indie and never will be. How the hell can kol be an indie band!!!!
luckysalt
You think? I'd class them more indie based than rock these days, same for Foos. Oh well whatever, call them what you like!
thetime
Indie as been dead since 1995! Typical lazy pigeon holing!!! People call kol, killers and the likes don't know what there talking about. If kol last album flopped people would still be creaming themselfs over them, because there ultra popular people don't wanna know. Music fans no, like to look cool for the next new thing...pilchards. Neds atomic dustbin get them to play, a proper indie band.

j...rox
I love both bands, seen Kings twice and Kasabian four times. Would happily go to this. Especially with stereophonics on the undercard, awesome in 08 and i'm trying quite a lot to find bargain tickets for their tour on ebay. jordanuk90
The problem is the V lineup rumours and headliners havent changed much in the last 3 years so people are just getting a little tired of the same names floating about I bet Ocean Colour Scene play though they play every damn year

jordanuk90
they have only played twice since 2003, I didnt htink they have played v much.. unlike the subways at leeds.. bloc party lol
brfcstar
If they are the headliners doubt it will sell out as fast as usual...lets be honest, if you'd wanted to see them you'd have had so many chances over the last few years you would have...
jordanuk90
I think it will sell out faster this year with these two headling. Aparently they were the two most populur bands picked on the V questionaire
rockinthecasbah
If memory serves correctly, it wasn't paticularly fast compared to other years. The draw of Oasis was tempered by the fact that most of their fans had the opportunity to see them on both their arena and stadium tours, which both covered most of the country. Certainly my excitement about them being booked was minimal due to that. As for the original question: In terms of selling tickets and pleasing the V crowd- good booking. In terms of providing any form of originality or excitement for regular gig/festival goers- terrible booking. I think they'd have struggled to pick a more boring set of headliners. Bennyjp
Quality headliners. Kasabian are one of the best live acts out there and would smash it as headliners. How you lot can debate otherwise really surprises me KOL? Ok I understand that they have over toured this country in the last few years but they still have a great live sound. Prodigy with these 2 really would be different gear
Vogue
As much as I love kings of leon, i think they should stay away for a while. After complaining about the crowd at reading only knowing sex on fire etc, and none of their older songs, they would have exactly the same thing happen at v. I have never seen them live and would love to, but there will be other chances in a year or two, for now they need a break from over-exposure. I'm a massive fan and have been for years, but i so many people claim to 'love' them after only hearing sex on fire, which is a pretty annoying song..their older stuff is great. That's what I think anyway
luckysalt
I think it sold out towards the end of the day, but went back on sale regularly on the Saturday here and there and then a lot over the next few months for a couple of hours at a time I think this year though it will sell out straight away, within a few hours
