I think you are correct - what I remember most is it was an 'introducing' tour, and was only 50p to get in!! The giggling when Angus stripped off his school uniform and showed everyone his arse at the end. I don't know if he still does that these days ?

They didn't seem that special at the time, but that first LP is not their best is it?

Whereas when Freddie came on with Queen you just knew they were going to be big......they'd only just released 'Keep Youself Alive' Thought they were top - however Mott were at their rabble rousing best. Its still one of the best gigs I've ever been to, all these years later......

I remember seeing the Rolling Stones on what was billed as their 'Farewell Tour' in 1968 in Bristol. They were blown off the stage by The Groundhogs.

Also went to Glasto before it became Glasto - The Shepton Mallet Fest of 1970.

I saw Queen supporting Mott The Hoople as well - at Hammersmith Odeon in December 1973. I was still at school. Fantastic gig with a near riot at the end when teh management tried to stop Mott playing. Went back there in October last year to see the Mott reunion and really enjoyed it.

Just a few months after seeing Bowie do the last Ziggy Stardust gig at the same venue.

I was also in Hyde Park for the free Queen gig (even though Im not particularly a fan. But it was free!). But it was 1976 not 77. I know that cos by 77 I would never have gone - even for free!

Another good gig at Hammersmith Odeon was Tom Robinson supported by Stiff Little Fingers

Rock Against Racism in Victoria Park with The Clash, Steel Pulse, Tom Robinson, etc? Yep, that one as well.

And I've only missed 4 (I think) Glastonburys since 1984. Do I win a prize

I think it's amazing. It's A Long Way to the Top is still one of my favourite tracks, and still makes me feel 16 again.

I saw them on February 22, 1977 at the Top Rank in Cardiff, and was already a big fan, they'd been featured a lot in one of the music mags of the time, and on Radio Luxembourg.

There was a disco beforehand and in an effort to get my friend confident enough to dance, I plied both of us with drinks, which meant we were completely pissed. I ended up having a blackout, and remember 'coming round' to myself screaming at the stage and being held back from leaping on it.

We hassled the guy guarding the dressing room until we got to their dressing room, where being the cool teens we were, we produced autograph books for them to sign. My friend actually threw hers to them and it bounced off Angus' head. They weren't impressed, I don't think. We'd both been crying and looked like Alice Cooper.

Later on, Bon came out for a drink, and spent some time talking to us. I remember we had a snog, and I can remember giving him a slap but I can't remember what for. That was quite naughty of him, he must have been about 30 and I was 16.

Unfortunately I have absoloute no recollection of actually seeing them play.

And my personnal favourite, late one night in 1994 (when he would have been 13) he was looking at the ticket he had for and up and coming Nirvana gig but sensed that something was wrong so he sneeked out of his bedroom window, went into the middle of Manchester, went into a pub and sold it for £150 to some bloke he met.

Thinking about Danny Bullshit on my last post has just reminded me of a cracker.

My wife works in the Prison Service and used to work at Hull Prison. This would be about 6 or so years ago back, a year or so after Pirates of the Caribbean had first come out. Anyway there was an officer that worked on the same wing who had changed his name to Captain Jack Sparrow. He used to walk around in the same weird sort of way, sang sea shanties as he was walking around, had his hair the same way as Johnny Depp did and even had the same little goatee as the Deppster. (I never got to meet him but my wife says he did actually look a fair bit like him). He said that he had contacted the people that supplied the costumes to the film and asked them to make him an exact replica of Johnny's costume. When they then started to make the 2nd and 3rd films (they filmed them at the same time apparently) the costume people told the film company about Captain Jack and his passion for the films. So apparently the film company were so impressed with his devotion to all things Piratey that they offered to fly him out to LA to be an extra so he took 2 months unpaid leave and went out there. When he got there they liked him so much they decided he should have a proper part so they re-wrote the script to give him a nice juicy part to play. His character was supposed to the new member of the bloke from The Office with the wooden eye and his bald chum’s little gang. As these were pretty big characters in the film he said he would be on screen loads and he was really important. Loads of people asked him what was going to happen in the next 2 films but he said that because he'd been made to sign a contract he couldn't tell anyone what happened in the film and the reason he didn't have a tan despite filming in LA and in the Caribbean was because his scenes were mostly set indoors. He also said he’d become really good mates with Johnny Depp during filming and was going back out to America later in the year for Johnny’s birthday party. Anyway just before the 2nd film came out Captain Jack suddenly had to go on long term sick with stress so he wasn’t around when it hit the cinemas but a big group of people from the prison that went to the pictures to watch it to see Captain Jack but the couldn't see him anywhere. He came back a few months later after it had all died down and said they must have cut every single one of his scenes but that he'd definitely in the next one as he was really central to the plot. So again just before it came out he went off on long term sick, he wasn't in this one either, not even a mention in the credits or a peep of him in the background.

He never came back to work and after some digging someone on the wing got hold of one of neighbours who said he'd never left the country to do any filming but had spent a couple of months at home when he said he was away. They also said that he'd up’d and left Hull around the time the 3rd film came out, presumably because he couldn't face the embarrassment of telling everyone he's been talking out of his arse.
