V Festival conversations

I'm gonna stick up for V here. I've been to loads of them and never had a bad time.

Its corporate and its expensive but other than Glasto so are all the other main festies. Its not particularly diverse but thats not the point. I've seen some amazing performances as well, loads who are touted as great Glasto performers i.e. Radiohead, Chems, Prodigy, Dizzee etc. Its all about the big names but sometimes thats not such a bad thing!

We've been to Glasto 08 and 09, and this year went to V Stafford to try something different and see what another festival would be like.

Overall, apart from the fact it was much, much smaller, a lot stricter and the food wasn't great and expensive at that, we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was nice not having to trek miles to each stage and the line-up was the music we enjoy.

Apart from the music there wasn't a lot to do though, and we're glad it didn't rain, as we it wouldn't have been much fun not being able to sit on the gound in the arena.

Oh yeah, and some drunken chavs jumped on our tent while we asleep inside at 2am on the Sunday night, and totally wrecked it.

The music was great, the weathe was good, the toilets were better and cleaner than at Glasto tbh.

Don't think we'd go again, but glad we did (even though we've had to buy a new tent).

Were talking to our neighbours about Glasto, and they were interested in it, but they were hardcore and longtime V goers, and were going "Yeah, but I probably saw more bands on the TV footage than you did when you were there" and I'm like "To be honest, I saw ( long list of bands), so no, not really".

Agreed. It's amazing me just how snobbish people are on this forum. I've been to V five times and I've never had a bad time there. Of course it's not the same as Glastonbury. But then it's not trying to be.

As long as people are enjoying the festivals they are going to, what does it matter?

Music is music to me, I've been to T4 On the Beach and that's about as corporate and souless as you can get.

Not every festival will appeal to everyone, I'm glad that not everyone thinks Glasto is the best, means it's more likely that I'll be able to get a ticket every year. ;)

the absolute worst thing and probably the only bad thing about glasto is the snobbery it brings out in some people.

festivals are festivals some are better than other and some obviously are worse than others but the general premise is the same

no work

with friends

drunk in a field

having a good time listening to music

obviously Glastonbury is my favourite festival, nothing else even comes close to compairing but i never ever feel the need to or supress the urge to belittle others over which choices they make festival wise i just make sure to give them my honest opinion and advise them to do glasto as they wont regret it.

why on earth would you enter into a conversation with anyone only to then agree with them but secretly be angry and annoyed, that is just f**king bizarre!

Firstly, anyone who's posted abuse on here about other festivals that they've not been too should question why they've got their opinions from (especially opinions so strong they feel the need to share them)

I've been to Glasto 5 times (first in 2004) and V festival 7 times (first in 2001). I can honestly say I've never had a bad time at either.

Glastonbury is my favourite. V lives and dies on its line-up. That said its 'corporate' nature often ensures it's a pretty decent line-up. There's nothing like the breadth but I've seldom argued with their choice of headliners.

I'm not sure I'd suggest Glasto to someone who's never been to a festival - I don't think there's any harm building up to it, like I did.

Either way, if people try festivals and enjoy some and not others, who am I to judge?

I keep getting in to the same situation:

Get in to a conversation with someone about festivals and how great they are. I talk about the fact I go to Glastonbury every year. Then they say something like "yeah I've been to V festival a few times festivals are great arent they".

Every time this happens I just smile and agree but the rage burns up inside me and I want to tell them how rubbish V festival is and Glastonbury is 50 billion times better. But I dont want to seem arrogant, patronising or piss on their bonfire.

What does anyone else say in this situation?

Glasto is amazing and I loved every minute of it but it's in June, and V is in August.

Whilst I agree that V is substandard it fills that weekend in August nicely if you're with a good crowd.

It is what it is I suppose, a cash cow with big stages and some decent bands.

Ahh poor V, I have been going to V on and off for the last 6 years, a huge majority of my friends are teachers and we live about half hour away from Chelmsford and to be honest with the group of us that goes we could be anywhere, I have never had a bad time!

2010 wil be my first Glastonbury and there are only 2 of us going as its term time, its going to take me about 5 hours to get there, but i am still over excited seeing as its still 35 weeks away!

But even so I will probably still go to V in August!

V is brilliant

I have been 3 times and loved it every time

Great bands and, to be honest, you choose the people you are with - there are tossers at Glasto too

IMHO Glasto is different altogether and far better but that's the point, it is my opinion only and it is ludicrous to get angry with other people just because they haven't been lucky enough to experience it

It's not as if Glasto is short of people wanting to go - how long did it take the tickets to sell out?

As my kids would say - take a chill pill

While i prefer Glastonbury, i think V is a decent festival ive enjoyed it whenever ive been i found it pretty well organised and most people seemed ok to me plus ive hardly queued for the bar or toilets there. Its quite a good laugh if you've got nothing better to do around the time.

    • World Cup 2026: What is happening with ticket prices? - BBC Sport   Sounds like Infantino has been learning from his buddy if he's running around claiming its all sold out while quietly dumping tickets below face on assorted secondary websites.
    • Mac DeMarco also cancelled
    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
    • Out of interest keep seeing messages saying last 12 hours etc… to buy you full weekend tickets.  Whats that about? Do they take them off sale early?
