I'm not arguing semantics, I've shown you that a website called it a triumph and defining moment in the band's history which I and my friends would agree with - not to mention all the people around us who were having as great time; this is far from a slating. I know some people weren't happy but you can't say the majority were disapointed, there is just no proof.

a tiny proportion criticized - people are just more likely to speak out when they are disapointed, and remember there were 40,000 odd people watching The Monkeys, even if you spoke to 100 people who slated the performance thats still an awful lot who's opinion is unknown. My point is exactly that it is from your perepective because from my perspective they were very well recieved - there is no way of knowing the opinion of everyone in the audience.

But thomasowen, its a festival. Does that not change everything? Alot of people aren't huge AM fans but they show up, cause theyve paid £200. They want to chill and listen to a decent band play some songs they know and enjoy. When they dont play these songs, theyre gonna get a bit pissed off.

As for the set, I didnt think it was very good. Nothing to do with the set list, i just thought it was a very boring performance.

I didn't! I really enjoyed it! You're seriously misunderstanding.

I wasn't talking about myself though!

You might want to read through my posts again. At no point did I say "I think this was wrong, they shouldn't have done this, I would've preferred it if they did this.." or anything of the sort. For me, there was nothing wrong with the setlist. From the beginning, I've been discussing other people's views and why (to me) a large number of people didn't seem as pleased as I would've expected, and then looking into why this happened.

You've completely misunderstood if you think my opinion is that they should've played more old songs and that I'm slating them. It was an incredible performance for me, perhaps not for others though. All I'm doing is deciphering why other people might not have enjoyed it.

In case you still don't believe me - I'm a massive Arctic Monkeys fan, but the reaction and response I saw at Reading/Leeds wasn't the reaction I'm used to them getting. For me, it was flawless, but I can see why other people may not have enjoyed it so much. That doesn't mean I'm bashing Arctic Monkeys - I'm not. I much prefer it when bands perform sets like they did, but I'm also not naive enough to think it's everyone's cup of tea. I'm willing to accept that.

in the end of the day people want bands to do there hits at festivals, but am have something like 8 or 9 singles so its not going to take einstein to realise this will take up about 30mins of the set with an hour of fill for alot of the crowd.

people think bands play festivals because they love them, for the fans etc etc. Usually they are there to plug a new album so of course its going to be top heavy of the new album.

You only have to look at placebo!

No I don't :P but I think I have as good an idea as anyone about how a band has been recieved on these boards, on other message boards and in magazines and newspapers. As I said it's a fair comment to say Razorlight were slated (tiny audience, terrible reviews, very negative reaction on here) but Arctic Monkeys had a huge audience, excelent reviews and at worst a mixed reaction on these boards. It wasn't what I would call a slating.

I'm judging on the people I came across, not magazine reviews. Sure, loads liked it, but loads seemed to not like it too. I heard more negative opinions of them than any other band that weekend, mainly people feeling let down.

I didn't mind that they played new songs - I really enjoyed the whole set. I could see why people wouldn't though. Humbug does take a new direction, one which not everyone warmed to.

It had only legally been released for a week, was it? Not everyone downloads leaked albums, the majority of people don't download leaked albums. Not everyone is into the downloading culture. While popular, it hasn't completely taken over.
