The most memoral thing I have from seeing The Cure at Glastonbury three times is some wit shouting from the crowd "oh go on, play a happy song".

Oh, aside from the lightening storm in 1986 - which was far more entertaining than the band on stage.

It ain't my fault they've been exceedingly average at best each time they've played.

They probably aren't big enough now to headline the Pyramid but I can't see them either accepting or even being asking to headline the other stage. Its a case of they will either get booked to headline or get asked to play second on the Pyramid (Like Moz in 2004?) and they won't do that. For a start they probably consider Glasto and Coachella to be equal in stature and as they headlined Coachella, then why not Glasto? Thats not what I think, but I believe thats what their mentality is like.

As far as popularity goes, they are probably about the same level as they were in 1995 except back then they were seen as one of the current best bands in the world "coming back", now days they are seen as much more of a genre defining cult band, who doesn't branch into the mainstream as often. CD and albums sales wise, they probably have some of the lowest of all the bands that have headlined in the last 20 years or so, yet they have headlined 3 times.

Its just been announced today though, that they are re-releasing their most famous album "Disintegration" in a 3CD box set in Spring 2010....just in time for the summer festivals. I reckon it helps their odds a bit.
