Just as a reminder, Tort's FAQ moved from the Gorge about a year ago. The version there is out of date.

The current version, including camping information, can be found at www.glastoearth.com

Tort is currently working on the initial version for 2010, which he expects will be available in about two weeks.

I found camping by John Peel to be brilliant as far as proximity to toilets, food and stages was concerned. Admittedly we didn't camp there out of choice (everywhere else was full by this point- on the Wednesday!) but it wasn't that noisy considering it's near Dance Village. I found it to be quieter than where I camped the year before, which was the field by the Pyramid Stage (don't know the name of it).

It depends on how much sleep you want to get though

We camped in Row Mead after getting there about 3 in the afternoon on the Wednesday. It was great for quick access to the Pyramid but it's a looooooong walk back from somewhere like The Park.

Your son is called Food?? Cool!!!

Park and Arcadia you could buy booze at all hours.

I've always camped in Pennards... people say its loud and unfriendly and full of noisy horrible teenagers... but I've always liked it. You've just got to get there early.

A few years ago someone posted a summary of the camping fields, here is my attempt at a similar thing updated, perhaps it will be of help to some people:

Wicket Ground / Lime Kiln Ground / Hitchin Hill Ground:

Good: Very little though traffic, close to bus station, great view of the rest of the site, very hilly in places, quiet after midnight.

Bad: Bloody long way to everything apart from John Peel stage, quiet after midnight.

Woodies / Lower Mead:

Good: Near main PGA and bus station, close to John Peel Stage and Dance Village.

Bad: A bit hilly, close to John Peel Stage and Dance Village, fairly quiet.

Dance Field (Oxlyers):

Good: Near PGD nice and flat, near to dance area with a view of other stage, close to old railway track for access to most areas.

Bad: Possible flooding issues in extreme weather, a bit soulless, used as a cut though to The Park, full of gurners.

Paines Ground / Dairy Ground / South Park:

Good: Close to PGD, nice and flat, does not fill up quickly, close to The Park, easy access to old railway track (mostly)

Bad: long way from most things except The Park.

Park Home Ground/Pennards Hill:

Good: Close(ish) to PGD, close to The Park, Green Fields, Stone Circle and Shangri-La, party central?

Bad: Flooded in bilabial scale in 2005, (top of Pennards), drainage improved since, parts of it fill up quickly, party central vibe not what it was.

William's and Dragon field:

Good: Very little though traffic, Great vibe, close to Green Fields, Stone Circle and Shangri-La, 24 hour noise.

Bad: Full by midday Wednesday, very hilly, 24 hr noise.

Holts:

Good: Flat and close to everything, except the gates.

Bad: Masses of through traffic, cuts up very badly very quickly in a shower, in hot weather turns into dust bowl.

Kidney Mead / Big Ground / Home Ground / Row Mead:

Good: Great view of Pyramid stage, next to the only porcelain you will find on site (flushing, yes flushing toilets), close to only proper ATMs, and cider bus, has views of the Pyramid stage, is a little hilly very unlikely to flood.

Bad: Fills up very quickly, very busy when major acts are playing worse when said acts are finishing, Stone Circle, Green Fields and Late Night Areas are a long way away.

Cockmill Meadow:

Good: You know, for kids.

Bad: Full of kids.

Hawkwell / Top Webbs Ash / Michael's Mead:

Good: Good view of Pyramid stage, close to ATMs, quiet after midnight.

Bad: Can fill up quickish, long way from everything apart from Pyramid stage.

At the end of the day, no one camping spot can be near to everything, the size of the site precludes this, so just think, where am I likely to spend most of my time, very difficult question if you have never been before. In which case just think noisy or quiet.

Next year I want to spend less time seeing bands and more time in Shangri-la, Trash City, etc, so I am hoping for something closer to them or at least more central. Wish the sun set earlier because those places are all dead during the day. This year I ended up on the outer edge of Woodsies right by the Peel tent, which ended up not being bad, except walking back from Trash City and The Park was murder. It was a convenient place to be Saturday and Sunday morning, because I was spending extensive time at the Other and Peel stages, respectively.
