I like the idea of doing G in some sort of fancy dress item and representing the odder side of G which is what helps it give the vibe it has and is part of the reason why so many people want to go. I think that a lot of people think I'm at an outdoor festival so have gone to sensible shoes and warm practical clothing but then indulge in the silliness anyway. The problem is when you organise weirdness you automatically have normalcy. So perhaps everyone should read this, go away and work out how they want to be weird but not tell anyone! I'm turning this into a paradox it doesn't need to be!

Glastonbury has them all, Weird, Normal, Old, Young, Gay & more.

Its the variety of people that makes Glastonbury festival. I too enjoy seeing people in fancy dress but havent dressed up myself. Personaly if I did go fancy dress? would probably be as a hippie!! After all wasnt Glastonbury originaly made up of hippies and travellers? Keep it simples......for me anyhow!!

I did a bit of everything at Glasto this year, one day in fancy dress, normal clothes for other days, then Sunday was Free Hugs day with my specially printed red tshirt. (did anyone see me?) I know it's probably not that original but it got me loads of hugs, and that's something that you don't normally do in real life! Unusual has to stay unusual or it becomes usual, predictable and boring.

I've got a joke for you: "Some c**t creates a facebook group complaining about 'normaloids' spoiling the atmosphere at Glastonbury and suggests everyone makes more effort to be 'in character' and dress up in fancy dress because that is what makes Glastonbury special."

There's a place for this kind of organised wackiness. It's called Bestival.

I've joined the group. Can't see any harm in it.

Will be fun to dress up, especially if not in 'normal' fancy dress. I was going to this year, but couldn't be bothered with the extra weight etc.

Might bring two costumes next year to make up for this year.

I took a Superman outfit this year, fully intending to wear it, but what with the heat, bruises on my shoulder from too heavy a bag, and the lack of pockets I never actually put it on. I think I'm going to take it next year. We might be taking a camper van and hopefully the temperatures will be more normal. I shall be Kal-El!

Bestival has a fancy dress theme announced before the festival. I reckon about 75% of punters make the effort and bring a costume. Many of them are very creative and elaborate (e.g. a group of four lads, three in costumes that joined up to make The Titanic, and the fourth dressed as an iceberg).

It's not spontaneous, but it makes for a brilliant party atmosphere.

i don't do fancy dress, as I'd feel awkward/uncomfortable..it's just not me

if everyone was dressing up, it wouldn't be anything out of the ordinary,

The a small breakaway faction started the 'anti guy ropes' campaign.

Recently we've had a new 'anti-chairs' strand.

Then of course up rose the 'anti-flags'.

And now we have 'anti-practical clothing'.
