Who took a pedometer this year?

I wore a pedometer during Primavera and it was something ridiculous like 40000 steps one night due to a mixture of walking, jumping, dancing and even tapping my foot - the four blended together after I'd had a few. That seemed very optimistic but I'm certain I walked at least twice as much at Glastonbury. Would be interesting to compare numbers at a dry/muddy festival - the former you'd probably cover more distance but the latter you do more 'walking on the spot to avoid sinking'!

I took one along this year, results were as follows:

Wednesday: 32068 steps, 16.03 miles

Thursday: 29438 steps, 14.71 miles

Friday: 23492 steps, 11.74 miles

Saturday: 26012 steps, 13.00 miles

Sunday: 24735 steps, 12.36 miles

Total: 135745 steps, 67.87 miles

Friday, saturday and sunday results are distorted cos of dancing so i'd say the actual value is probably around 60 miles. No wonder my legs and feet caused me so much pain.

On a slightly related note, my friends and I at the festival were trying to work out how far we walked and trying to scale it based on our home town (St Albans). Saying stuff like oh, 'I'd never walk from your house to my house that would be silly' (but being sure those distances and further were what we were walking daily). One of my friends is a comp-sci and set up a programme that mapped the site onto a map of St Albans - although I haven't worked out how to access and work it hehe :)

I did this in 2008 and it said I walked 60 miles between THursday and Monday. I could well believe it because my feet were dead at the end! When you think how far it is from the Pyramid to the Other Stage (1/2 mile?) or JP stage (600m?) and the Park Stage (800m?) and how many times you go back and forth between the stages during the course of the day, and then off to Shangri La or the stone circle in the evening (must be a good mile from the Pyramid), then its easy to see how far you walk over the weekend

i got an idea of the sheer scale of the place this year when, looking down from the top of the hill at the park, i noticed just how far off the electricity pylon by the pyramid looked. it looked like a plastic toy from that distance, and then when you realise that's only really still about half way/three quarters of the way across the festival site, it really puts glastonbury's size in perspective.

    • My understanding is that the queues returning back to the UK will be much worse (up to two hours) but the queue entering Lisbon isn’t so bad. That’s just from reading a few forum posts about it though so take it with a pinch of salt!

    • I'm British so it very much would apply for me.   I mean, it's a moot point as I don't have tickets so will not be in town for this, but I've heard reports of lengthy queues and given I remember Lisbon Airport having a long queue at arrivals even pre-EES when I went in 2023, I seem to guess it might be quite the wait, depending on flight paths.   Certainly, the worst I've had pre-EES was a 45 minute wait for a stamp at Valencia Airport in Spain, where 4 flights to non-EU destinations in quick succession were placed one after the other. So I can't say I'm enthusiastic about what's in store. Or you know. Maybe I'm just overthinking it.
