The Decemberists

This is the band that would make my festival if they turned up in the line-up next week. I've annoyingly missed them for a variety of reasons every time they've played in the UK, they've got a cracking new album out and they just generally rule. Frustratingly, they've been stuck on 'SR' in the rumours list here for months.

So, does anyone know what the source of the original rumour was, and whether there's any hope of them confirming at this point? According to their website, they have a gap between US dates on 20 June and 17 July, but that doesn't necessarily mean a lot - they could just be on holiday. Sorry if I should be able to find this out by the way - I've done a search and just come up with people who, like me, would really like them to play.

Cheers!

I think the new album's going to be a grower. Some of it's magnificent. But I've got a lot of affection for them banked up

Shame you missed their previous gigs Rodimus. Every time they visit now, it's bigger venues. Nottingham Rescue Rooms for Picaresque was lovely and intimate.

I wonder what they'll do at a festival. The current tour involves playing The Hazards of Love all the way through (then a break, I think, then old favourites). That wouldn't work on a festival main stage. If they were feeling generous, one on the main stage, one on the acoustic? Or a Colin Meloy Sings set.

We can pray.

Off to badger @colinmeloy on Twitter.

Well, they're a strong rumour...

They have a busy tour schedule in the US, but lookee:

06/20/2009 Walker Art Center Minneapolis, MN

... conspicuous gap ...

07/17/2009 Marymoor Park Redmond, WA

Looks like a festivals-of-the-world gap to me.

After that it looks busy til mid August. They have to bring Hazards Live to Europe though, right?

    • If you didn't see melt banana at Apolo. Go see them at the festival. Insane.
    • Interesting, and thanks for coming back to give an update! I've seen that the second stage looks bigger than usual too, looks to be a Serious Stages - Stellar Stage from distance photos.    Seems like sizing wise stages have been scaled up somewhat this year.
    • I see its cancelled now but they did leave it really late to announce plus they are up against Kelburn Garden Party Festival not to far from the festival site.
    • Easily my favourite set of the day.
