efestivals are holding bak on the information and know that acdc are playing leeds on the 28th and reading on the 30th. i now know up to 20 people that have all confirmed that they have seen this information on there website before it was quickly removed. this is so that acdc fanatics dont buy all the tickets to the festrival jst to see acdc and not to see the festival and hence ruin it for everybody else.

I can admit that I was wrong about them headlining, and whoever this weird guy is.. they're never headlining now.

But.. I can guarantee that it DID appear on their website this afternoon (For some unknown reason) and the guy on here is telling the truth about that.

Sorry for the false alarm, my bad!

AC/DC - Too Loud To Headline Reading?

NME By Alan WoodhousePosted on 15/04/09 at 12:43:15 pm

Speaking as someone who is generally perceived be the epitome of an "indie boy" (well, that's what my girlfriend calls me) I've, until recently, been a bit sniffy about the kind of rock (rawk?) music which tends to attract fans to the Download Festival and the last day of Reading.

Speaking of Reading, it was long rumoured, in fact generally assumed, that the 'rock day' headliner this year would be AC/DC – they've been trying to get them for years, they are on tour - the planets were aligned on this one.

But it didn't happen, and there isn't even a 'rock day' on the main stage at all. But the organisers should have moved heaven and earth to get them – because their performance at London's O2 Arena last night was without the doubt the best arena show I have ever seen.

Everything about it was perfect – the punishing volume, the choice of songs (five new album tracks and THE HITS), the audience's frenzied reaction, and the sheer spectacle. You can read about all that in our news story.

But when I was on the way home, I couldn't help thinking that if those boys were to headline a festival, they would make everyone else sound unspeakably lame. Although having said that, if they had done Reading, the organisers would have had to do something about the sound restrictions. Maybe that's what AC/DC were concerned about, as they were in talks, but subsequently chose to do their own summer stadium shows instead.

Anyway, the idea of watching Arctic Monkeys, Kings Of Leon and even the mighty Radiohead doesn't seem quite as exciting now. In fact, I'm worried that whoever I see in the future will just pale in comparison to what I've just witnessed.

To those who rocked, I salute you

:D

I was at the O2 on tuesday, and it was by far the best gig I've ever been to. And I've been to ALOT of gigs.

I completely agree that the organisers should have "moved heaven and earth" to get them, and future gigs will seem pale in comparison.

AC/DC > KOL, AM and Radiohead put together. And it's not close.

While not the best ever gig I've been to it's only been topped by three bands whose music I listen to a lot more than AC/DCs. The stage show and performance however can't be faulted and if I see another show this year that gets close to it then I will be overjoyed.

    • f**king horrendous and seems they couldn’t run an egg and spoon race.  zero info and the crush waiting to get in to see Massive Attack was potentially disasterous. Zero info, no stewards at all and was told that the whole evening was cancelled, when we got to the exit. Because it rained. First time attendee and i’ve got onsay, i’m far from impressed. Scalping bastard taxis asking €37 plus for an €11 fare too. Wonderdul.
    • Rumours are it's called The Lost Tour. In the US in September. Ireland in November (so UK+Europe a good bet around November/early December).
    • Hey guys, is there a group going for any solo y not goers this year?? I couldn’t miss out once I saw the acts but it’s just me and would be great to meet some others:))
    • After deciding to abandon the festival, here's a few of my thoughts (mostly negative tbf).    On the positive side - was it just me or were there a few more urinals than last year? Seemed to help the queues at the loos a bit from what i saw. Plus they had at least had some foresight and had a few more covered areas in the VIP areas.    Now on the negatives.  The weather was admittedly pretty crap but it wasn't apocalyptic. How the actual f**k are bits of the main stage falling off in those conditions?  Then the communication was awful, there's a load of people who left the site because they were told by security guards/other personnel that there would be no more acts on the main stage this evening.  You have an app Primavera, use it! Yes, there's a shitload going on I'm sure but communication with the festivalgoers should be one of the top priorities. You failed.    And I'm not usually somebody who buys into the whole "oh this is hugely unsafe and it's lucky people weren't hurt" narrative, but all the above led to movements of people that were genuinely unsafe.  Evacuating Mordor entirely (again... Why???) and then having a horde of people trying to get in because they thought they were going to Massive Attack was insane.  And given a lot of people basically abandoned ship around 10.30pm the crush at both the exit to the festival and the entrance to the Metro was pretty dangerous.   Conditions happen, most people will get that....but the contingencies have to be better.
    • You'd think that something like bad weather was in the basics of festival planning. After the shitshow of Madrid, you'd think they'd learnt their lesson, apparently not...
