Deftones on the bill at Reading/Leeds Festival 2009

According to a source that asked to not be identified, Deftones will be playing this year’s Reading & Leeds Festivals. Apparently, the band will be using a stand-in for bassist Chi Cheng, who has been in a coma since being involved in a car crash late last year. Interesting.

The appearance will mark Deftones first appearance at Reading & Leeds since 2000, and their first UK festival appearance since Download 2006.

To be honest they might do it, they're playing a US festival, thing is they haven't announced any other European shows, so Reading and Leeds would have to pay them well in order to get them to appear without doing any other shows, unless they tour Europe as dates and not festivals around the appearences

We still don't have any bands to go below Radiohead except Offspring in second, so it makes sense. Woudl certainly go far to recover the line up for me, Sunday would be epic if it was Deftones > Offspring > Radiohad.

I'll reserve my excitement for now though.

Deftones gig at Reading 2000 is one of my all time performances and my favourite ever festival show. It was cloudy and wet and the weather/atmosphere suited the band so much :-) The crowd was pretty crazy too!

I will be really pleased if this rumour is true!

Won't know till tomorrow, but i think it highly unlikely that they will put offsrping under radiohead. I think radiohead/tool/deftones makes a lot more sense.

I'm guessing Deftones can actually be good live then? Cos i've seen them twice and plenty of other times on TV and whatnot and they've been balls.

I don't think Tool will be playing though, nor do I think that really makes much more sense.

Deftones really disappointed me when I saw them live, perhaps my expectation was too high.

Pretty happy about this, im no huge deftones fan in all honesty but they're a lot better than some of the other rumoured bands.

just becuase tool and readiohead would have more fans which would 'cross over'. I doubt very much that any radiohead fans would be into pop-punk...
