oh dear, this thread has turned into a monster! :D;)

edit: and hoping that people realise that this is the Download forum, not the general music discussion, so my opinions here generally regard acts playing FESTIVAL shows... i think my opinion stands up in court on those grounds compared to their own tours specifically :D

and i think the bands themselves quite easily know that they can mix art AND entertainment at a live show. ie, how many times do your hear a band say at a gig 'Ok, we're gonna play a new one for ya...' or something similarly in a hesitant or overly-fast-lets-just-start-it way, because they too care about the conumerism of music... they know they can play new stuff and pursue whatever angle they're going for and accept the consequences, but have to temper it with the stuff the fans like. and i don't think many big bands out there would agree that a deal like that is crushing their artistic spirit. they get paid, get to make their art, they just maybe have to give something back in return. ya know, maybe sometimes being in a big band must be like, actually working?

there's a difference between 'selling out' and making money out of what you enjoy doing fo sure.

I won't be watching Chris Cornell at Download.

His has gone off on such a radical tangent with this new album its really hard to believe its Chris Cornell at times!! ;) Dare I say its too R'n'B for my tastes!?! I don't mind him taking his music in another direction, trying to make musical progression. But for me its been executed so terribly its a step in the wrong direction.

Can anyone really see him playing any of his new stuff at Download Festival?? I've only heard several clips of it on myspace, but I don't think this new direction of music suits Download Festival :D

surely playing a ROCK festival he'll play for the audience - even just a bit?! if he was billed at an r&b type festival (ok i don't know any) then i could understand him playing his r&b music coz that's probably what the target audience wants.. ;)

using 'terms' and 'these annoying "finger marks"' are 'cliches', and like, you've just done that, so is that double-dare-back-at-you-cliche, or AM i she-said-so-cliched, etc, so really, lets just not bother

i'm going to be the better man and duck out of this one before it turns into something off the official boards.

BUT YOUR OBVIOUSLY STILL A c**t ETC.

oooh, the irony!

i'm hoping the efestivals site can remain a place of peace and calm

here endeth my involvement, for about 5 minutes at least.
