The Third Headliner

The Festival Director on the DF has re-iterated today (and in just about every post he makes over there) that him and Copping are more excited about this Download and this set of bands than they've ever been.

From that, I just can't see it being Nickleback or FOB. There'd be one hell of a backlash.

I do think FNM will play, but are they big enough to headline? I'm not sure myself, though i've never taken an interest in them so i wouldn't really know. Were they that huge?

Green Day make a lot of sense to me, still. They're commercial, different to the other bands headlining, have a new album to promote, and would certainly count as both a big suprise and a band to which people will think 'How did they get them?', especially with the interest from R/L. I'll happily bow to Neills superior knowledge though, efestivals are usually right about these things.

Obviously i'd give my right arm for it to be GnR, and they are expected to be in Europe around that time, but would they be a huge suprise being as they headlined a few years ago? Maybe. A GnR/FNM combo would probably fit the bill I guess.

It won't be FNM - attempts were made to reform them, but it just isn't going to happen.

And it won't be Green Day - they are not doing any UK fests this year (but if they were going to, they'd do Reading).

Before they announced any bands at all the organisers were saying it was going to be huge and what has been announced, well there isn't a band on earth that could turn that line up and make it exciting in my opinion.

Whitesnake, Manson, Limp Bizkit, korn, zz top, def leppard, motley crue. Its hardly relevant and exciting. A lot of these bands are returning to the line up from obscurity and the line up seems to be a ramshacke of bands which haven't released anything of worth in over a decade. Having Anvil added to the line seems quite apt. Maybe they should see what Bad News are up to or Spinal Tap!

Thats it. Anvil headline with Spinal tap and bad news support!!

Well yeah. this the problem. They seem to have a habit of promoting bands which would play 2nd to headline status and expecting to taken seriously. They charge the same as the other major festivals but the headliners often fall short (profile wise) compared to T, V and reading.

I can't see on the download forums anything about the Third headline but I did just read the festival directors blog and he says they've sold more tickets this year in the first week on sale than they have ever done in the past

He didn't say in regards to how much of the overall allocation of tickets have been sold though, but if its a solid Friday Headliner, I reckon Download might sell out this year and sooner than you think
