Blink 182

I can't see Blink playing any where below a headliner slot, the last 2 times they came they sold out a full UK and Ireland arena tour, they've had 3 platinum albums here in the UK. The demand for them now is even more than it was the last time they toured. They could quite easily sell out a show or two at the Milton Keynes bowl, or somewhere along that size, as Green Day did. And I highly doubt they'd accept a slow below the top.

i've got to agree. their target audience has grown out of them. maybe not all of them, but the majority and i can't see younger kids now going back, finding them and saying "shit, this band is amazing".

they could 2nd headline ok, but a headline slot would be a joke. reading R/L headliners usually impress you. blink would be an hour and a half of "oh, i remember this....... meh"

Last time they played they were second and that was when they were at their peak. Now they've lost most of their main audience as has been mentioned, I think they could do second again.

Plus when Greenday did Milton Keynes they were bigger over here than Blink 182 ever were. Blink 182 had a couple of sold out arena tours over here, but they hardly sold out straight away.

I remember two years ago, it was around this date we found out Red Hot Chili Peppers were headlining. There didn't seem to be any panic then about 'omg who's the third headliner?!' before they were announced. I think there is only people worrying because last year the headliners were leaked much earlier than usual.

The difference with Rage is that it seems to be 'cool' to be a fan, so they have continued to generate new fans over the years. A lot of people seem to be embarrassed to have ever been a fan of Blink 182. I was a fan myself, but looking back they were shit and I wouldn't bother to see them again.

I'm suggesting that is one of the reason's they were able to headline a major festival after reforming, because they were able to retain a lot of fans from before they split, as well as adding fans in between. Blink 182 have not retained a good number of their fans and they do not have the same appeal as Rage for new fans to become interested. I remember it being quite cool to like Blink 182 in the early 2000s, despite their 'childish, fake music', which is one of the reasons it would be 'uncool' to like them now..

Spot on. I used to be a fan. I use the same username for pretty much everything and have done for many years. This is the first time in years I've actually thought about what it actually is. Maybe it's time I started using something else.

have to say i'd watch blink at leeds, i was a fan, but not a massive one and the one and only time i saw em was reading a few yrs back (and they were awful)

from what i can make out they were awful cos none of em (read one in particular) wanted to be in same country as the others, let alone in the same band!

If they promise to be blink how blink should be (IE not all serious etc, I want blink to sing songs about fart jokes etc etc) then it should be a right good larf

whether i could put up with a full length headline show is another matter...

Well its fair enough that you don't like them anymore, but the people who still are Blink fans, have grown up, as have Blink, so they might evolve and play different kinda music, Their last album, definitely my least favorite, was quite mature, I'd imagine after Tom's little "bullshit" rant that the new one will be similar but more upbeat.

    • Tonight was a disgrace. There wasn't *that* much rain, and it wasn’t *that* windy. A festival of this size should be able to withstand some adverse weather without it bringing the whole circus to a standstill. And if it is true that part of a speaker on the Revolut stage fell…   As for the communication - announcing Massive Attack were playing at 12:30 and then nothing for over an hour while people waited in the rain. It’s laughable it really is.   If I said I’ll never come back again I’d be lying. The shambles of Barcelona 2022 and the disgrace of Madrid 2023 didn’t stop me, so this probably won’t either.   This festival gets so much wrong, but it is always saved by having such killer line-ups. It’s just a shame it treats the fans/customers/consumers like animals. Compare it to somewhere like Glastonbury and it’s worlds apart.
    • Yeah, I admit that a small part of me felt relieved when they announced that MA are canceled.. But on the positive side- got to see Florence Road afterall, and they were great
    • Glad I could take the €3 bus to Playa Catalunya! Hope y'all warm and dry up.
