Being converted by Neil Young!

Can anyone reccomend some Neil Young albums which will more than likely feature heavily in his Glasto set? I mean am already well aquainted with Harvest, After the Goldrush, Deja Vu, Trans, Everybody's Rockin', Harvest Moon, and Zuma.

But im not sure this will be all he includes in his set. I dont think he will do too much Harvest!

I've never been a huge fan of Neil young but i have enjoyed some of his songs admittedly mostly the more well known ones we've all heard, but i got the chance to see him last year at the hop farm and i am so glad i did check him out as despite not knowing a lot of the songs i was mesmerized by his and his bands performance it was amazing and just i dunno i can't put it into words the atmosphere they created was just something special.

it had all the hallmarks of being a gig i hated, it was wet and cold i was very very ill after 3 previous nights out at wireless in Hyde park, i had a serious case of flu on the brew also, it was an artists i was familiar with and i was by myself (i was with friends but i lost them and went to sit on my own at the back and chill out)

yet it was one of the more memorable gigs i have ever been at.

i would definitely recommend checking him out to anyone who is flirting with the idea but not too sure.

If you want a taste of Neil at his distortion-drenched finest, try Ragged Glory - one of my 'desert island' albums.

There are several good live albums too - try Weld.

The great thing about him is that you can tell he was a kid who learned acoustic guitar and loved it, then he plugged in and made a big unholy f**king racket, and loved it - and still, forty years on and more, he STILL loves it, he's still that kid inside. And though he has a two or three recognised styles which he rotates (sweet acoustic eg Harvest, Harvest Moon, Chrome Dreams II...... Country rocker eg On The Beach...... noisy kid with Les Paul eg Ragged Glory etc), he can still surprise you and doesn't play it safe; look at the fury his recent tracks have provoked amongst self-confessed diehard fans on Fansites like Thrasher's Wheat.

The man is a legend and if he plays I will not miss it for anything.

Interestingly, some of Young's more recent music as exemplified by Weld and Ragged Glory borders on heavy metal in my opinion which is probably why I like it so much - only it's more of a psychedelic stoner metal. Did anyone catch the concert on Skyarts the other night from about 1991 with Crazy Horse? That's exactly what the Pyramid stage has been crying out for for years - pure, unadulterated freak out rock and roll.

What the best acoustic Neil Young albums to get. I have Havest & After the Gold Rush but are there any more worth purchasing?

Sorry guys but I don't reckon NY is gonna happen. I have nothing to base this on but it's gone awfully quiet on the rumour front and as far as i'm aware he doesn't have any plans to tour in the summer.

Also he is notoriously fickle and I thought it was quoted that he wanted £1M to perform last year...

Anybody got any views out there? Neil (e-festivals)?

I'm still optimistic. The rumours are no more quieter than the blur ones really, he's been listed as rumoured to play in the Q article going out tomorrow (see the white stripes/cs&y thread)...there's now the additional rumour of crosby, stills & nash playing that might be linked to Young already doing it.

Granted there's no announced tour dates over here but it's still early. I think it'll happen personally, and I'm pretty sure Neil (efests) was pretty sure aswell...think he said in one of the recent threads something along the line of that he was pretty certain but less certain than springsteen.

I'd guess if he wasn't to play, the newly rumoured white stripes would probably be the most likely replacement.

Bump! Wasn't sure which of the hundred threads on this theme to bump up, but I picked up Neil Young's Harvest for 3 quid from Fopp yesterday, and it's pretty good! Also for an album that came out in 1972 it's kept its value - any speculation on how much Lady Gaga's cds (or, err, blue-hologram cubes?!) will go for in 2046??!

Listen, just a word of warning. I was converted by Neil Young. I used to be a lovely bungalow and now I'm a knackered Two up, two down. He made a complete hash of it, total cowboy. Problem started when the first Shaky I phoned said he didn't have time to fix the shingles or the floor but said he knew a Shakey who could fit me in. It was like a disaster strewn episode of Property Ladder without a buxom, mouth on sideways Sarah Beanie to gsave the day with her sage advice.

Last I heard he was digging Beatles shaped holes in Lancashire, Blackburn I think it was. You have been warned.
