I got my copy yesterday and have to agree - but House of Mirrors is the one that if you fast forward a couple of years will be the song they close the headlining slot on the pyramid with.

We should start a campaign to get them to add this to the current set list. I'm sure someone from the band or close to them must be aware of this forum and thread - there aren't many bands with 22 pages of comments (and nearly all positive) and they aren't even considered headlining quality (HOW WRONG!). So guys please add HOM to the set list - its destined to be a classic along with Pounding and Cedar.

The CD isn't out for another 10 days so hopefully we'll get more support then.

Time to play it some more.

agreed, im trying not to over play it now, just got it in the car in the background to let it flow over me while im not really concentrating on it. it would/could be very easy for me to just play it to death over the weekend (fortunatly the new sspu is out there and i have kasabian tonight so shouldnt be a problem)

From Doves.net - so looks like HOM will be included!!

Doves.net: So how did you decide what songs from the new album to put into the set?

J: We always had it kind of worked out in our heads certain tracks that were obvious to play live... ‘Kingdom of Rust', ‘Winter Hill'... and then we just thought that there are a few other tracks that are quite ‘up' and quite intense, like ‘The Greatest Denier'; there's a good BPM on that. The same with ‘The Outsiders', you can tell that's a good live rock song. But we're not done with the album yet; there are definitely more tracks that we're going to put into the set.

A: We need to get some time to work out how we're going to play ‘House of Mirrors', ‘Compulsion' etc.

Big Doves fan but actually a bit disappointed by the new record. A few very good songs...the opening two tracks, House of Mirrors and Spellbound are all excellent. But there's a few that are nice enough but seem a little Doves by numbers (Outsiders, The Greatest Denier and Winter Hill) and Compulsion for me is little more than an extended jam.

Good record all in all but having such high expectations I am a bit disappointed.

There was something in that doves.net mailer that suggested Cedar Room could have been retired for this tour.

I really hope they change their mind by May 1st

ok, so for me theres definatly a chance that cedar room will return for the next tour and the festys as well as having lifelines (what a tune) to make it as well

from doves.net

Doves.net: Do you think the set-list will change for the spring tour?

Yeah, hopefully we can get enough time to sit down and work them out. To add a new song in to the set-list is not really just a case of plugging in and playing. We sample a lot of stuff and it’s quite a process to get it all set-up.

J: There’s always samples in our songs being triggered live and the technical side takes time.

There Goes The Fear

J: It’s a real nice one to end on. A massive fan favourite and it’s a great climax to the set.

A: We normally end on ‘The Cedar Room’ so this is a bit different. But it just means that when we go back to playing ‘The Cedar Room’, which we will, it’s going to feel fresh again. It’s good to change the routine and it help freshen things up a little.

I went to a pub quiz tonight. Odd to do that and come out thinking - OMG they're on a roll. To set the scene, the landlord - if you squinted - could have been the illegitimate half brother of both Goodwin and Garvey. Stubbly mid thirties, and gentle Mancunian tones.

Part way through the music section, his question was to name Doves three past albums.

The bit that made me smile was when he gave the answer.

"Doves, the band whose year 2009 will be..."

then as he listed each album, he proudly stated which were Mercury nominated, and then finished off by announcing Kingdom of Rust, and it's release date - even though it wasn't related to the question. ;)

I had a quick chat with him ten minutes later, and yes, massive fan and has his May 1st ticket too. :P

Made me chuckle. :)

Argh it's a decent album with a few belting songs but for me it's their worst effort. Great that they're getting recognition but it's really not a special record IMO.

    • It's a smart move because week after 5 fests already confirmed: Download (not officially), Nova Rock, Greenfield, Mystic, Sweden Rock
    • Oh I 100% agree and I'm questioning a lot.
    • That would be a day ticket for Friday going based on that. In 2027 that would suck for me lol.
    • And it's been moved forward a week, same weekend as RaR
