  1. I would willingly pay to be able to take my own transport to Glastonbury when volunteering. f**k all that having to get my arse to Bristol to get on a coach malarkey.

    How do you feel?

Yeah. "It's about what you're entitled to. Not what you can afford". I've been right down the rabbit hole with this one. Ultimately leads to this: https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/the-nhs-continuing-healthcare-scandal/ They just bank on you giving up I reckon. So is that it now? Does that mean nobody can appeal against decisions any more? I don't have time or tbh the mental fortitude to write 100 letters, and/or the funds to employ any of the various law firms that have sprung up to take advantage of this. Just got off of the phone with my GP. Claims to have never have heard of NHS CHC. Despite the .gov website saying they should. "Not my department guv". Started ranting about politicians for some reason. I've had Social Services just dismiss the idea immediately. Care costs in this country are like an inheritance tax before anyone has actually died. But rather than the money going to the state it ends up in the profits of private care companies that are often ultimately owned by Canadian teachers pension hedge funds and the like (or so I've heard. Sure I saw a Panorama or something on it). Them and the aforementioned law firms.

    How do you feel?

Three years since I posted this. Pretty much an identical Christmas this year. Along with the traffic chaos. Nothing much at all has changed in the three years. Me and Mum have continued coping at home with the help of carers three times a day, I have lost count of the number of hospital stays after falls and other issues where each time I've convinced myself that it's unfortunately time for her to go into a home. And here we are again. Does anyone have experience of getting NHS Continuing Healthcare for anyone? I feel the only way to get it is to be dirt poor or rich enough to fight local authorities through the courts (there's a whole industry out there dedicated to doing this. Hmm). I really feel I do not have the strength to fight these people right now. Sorry for the rant. Not very festivally I know.
  4. Edit (again): Yeah forgot The Hives. Also Generation Sex. Not a top ten I l know. Unless you count every weekend I can supporting local bands and Glasto I don't go to that many gigs. Sure I've must've been to some comedy gigs at The Marlowe in Canterbury this year but nothing's springing to mind at the moment. Got three gigs in the next three months lined up there for this year.
  5. Gig at my local tonight (NYE) was a proper happening. Roger Waters (both nights) at London 02 is one of the greatest shows ever put together imo. First night has the edge as they toned down some of the content for the second (goodbye dictators uniform, crossed hammer banners and realistic machine gun prop (thanks ADL)). Edit: All of Glastonbury obviously. Stand out being GnR followed by Steve Hillage. Axl > Reg. The Anti Nowhere League at Dover Booking Hall. One of the great punk bands in a great intimate venue.
  6. 2 Low 4 Zero is a great album.
  7. The Tax Office and/or His Majesties Excise & Customs (or whatever they are called these days) maybe? Greenpeace, CND, Water Aid, Shelter and the like possibly individual tallies?
  8. Back to add: This is well overdue isn't it!? Literally tens of millions to good causes over the years. And from the Tories as well?
  9. My thoughts precisely. Often wondered if he'd been offered an upgrade to the CBE previously but had had the good grace to turn it down without gobbing off about it. I'm sure I read somewhere that Tony Blair offered him a knighthood twice. Maybe wanted a Damehood?
  10. I'll be interested to see if they have added (much needed) subtitles since broadcast.
  11. Wow. I just got a question right on University Challenge. "Michael Eavis".
  12. The contender that is Madge is "live" in concert on BBC4 as I type.

    2024 Headliners

I think Metallica were meant to be exclusive somewhere the year they played. Hence them being announced officially very late in the day iirc. And The Who were poached from a gig they were meant to be doing in Paris once.
  14. Barbra Streisand would be Shirley Bassey levels of a kudos booking. Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves is my favourite Cher tune.
  15. Bryan Adams has added a June 13th date to his UK tour.
  16. As a civil servant I was not allowed to use volunteering days for the festival as it was deemed that I was "getting something out of it". Not even just for the 24 hours of actual shift time.
  17. Glad I spotted this. Haven't had an email myself despite having volunteered with Shelter four times (not since '19 mind). Is that an email from Avalon? I have registered interest but as of yet have had no confirmation. Couldn't see anything about a ballot. Also gutted that my nice little "in" has changed yet again (the coach only from Bristol makes it a bit of a 'mare for me). I never did find out if the coach change was a Shelter or Avalon decision. They cocked up the places in '20 (which became '22) as well iirc. How will Avalon be different do you think? Didn't know about that. Scandalous. Guessing the coach change was an Avalon decision then as it looks like they are sticking with the annoying Bristol only thing.
  18. Thanks. Proper time sink site that. Bookmarked.

    Pink Floyd?

I was also convinced he had really retired (and not just from touring). Do musicians ever really retire?
  20. Same with Sol Campbell (iirc) in '04. The disbelief swept slowly. As I posted earlier. 2010 was The Start of everyone turning up on The Wednesday imo. A lot to do with that game. 80,000 according to the Motty commentary. 60.000 if you read The Guardian. Top TV that. Is that the sometimes ITV wrestler Brian Glover? Saw him in a play on a school trip once. Tetley. Make Tea Bags. Make Tea. 2004 was incredible. Despite losing. Weds or Thu only though. Unless it's a final. It may have possibly got more lairy if they'd won? Brilliant. Out of upvotes. _____ As is traditional for me to post in these threads that crop up every two years: England v Germany V Slash into Ray Davies? Biggest no brainer ever.
  21. It was the Thursday. One of my top Pyramid memories. We were robbed. ______ I've always thought that there's a case to be made that the England V Somebody (possibly Lithuania?) game in a big competition kicking off late afternoon on the Wednesday one year was the start of the majority of people turning up on the day the gates open. First time we'd turned up on a Wednesday and struggled to get a camping spot. ______ Now that almost everyone brings a tablet or mobile I don't really see the need to set up a field or schedule a viewing Fri-Sun. Wed or Thu bring it on.
  22. Getting up in time for T day. Lol. But really seriously not lol. WTF is wrong with me? Biggest personal f**k up ever possibly.
  23. I am very much the bloody lamer this year.
  24. I am deeply ashamed to state that I overslept. Two alarms set for eight on ten minute repeat and I didn't hear one until 10:10. Ashamed is an understatement. Spent hours getting gadgets ready yesterday. Booked the day off of work. I feel sick. There is something very wrong with me. The BBC and Blondie kept me up last night.
  25. So a bit of Blondie 2023. Let's see if it's as bad as the haters said it was.
