...and so it comes to pass

Well after 12 years at print publishing with LCD I've decided to change jobs. Well thankfully someone offered me the chance to change career and I jumped at it. I can't say more as they are announcing my imminent arrival at some point in the future. It's in the field I really love so kind of like getting paid to do your favourite hobby. I'm off to Spain for a week now - so it may be announced while I'm away. Anyway I'll be catching up with Boris and Jo while we're there and generally take a

Mogwai: Happy Songs for Happy People

Mogwai: Happy Songs for Happy People Now we're talking! 'Mon the 'Gwai!! "vast sweeping soundscapes" (long instrumental tunes) "Dynamic Contrasts" (really quiet then really f**king loud) and "post rock" (dont know what that means) are often used to describe Mogwai's music. Its almost like people are given a little book of quotes to refer to when writing about certain bands. I didn't get into Mogwai until Rock Action and the single release My Father My King. But it seems like they've been

Festivals 08

Still pissed off with Sky broadband and as soon as we can get out of this contract we will. That said its November and we have tickets to 2 festivals booked already, ssh and Bearded Theory. As soon as Workhouse tickets are for sale we will be buying them and there is still talk of doing BD/Endorse it with a camping holiday in between, time will tell as they arent massively cheap. We also fancy a local one called middle of nowhere which we always tend to be on holiday when its on so that will

Bob Dylan: Bringing it all Back Home

Bob Dylan: Bringing it all Back Home No matter what i try to write about this album it all comes out like prententious bollocks. Its all a cliche when it comes to Dylan. Everything has allready been said before and in more depth and better and everything too. I'm not even sure this is my favourite Dylan album. Its miles better than Blonde on Blonde (if you ask me) but is it better than Highway 61 revisited? Aren't they 1 album? And only the other night i was listening to Freewheelin' and de

Big news soon....

Well there's a big change in my life on the horizon, and I can't say anymore than that but it can't come soon enough. Looking forward to heading to Spain in the beginning of December - the temperature in Murcia is over 20 degrees both day and night at the moment - lovely! Have to get in touch with Boris and Jo and firm up meeting them - not looking forward to getting the plane at 4am though! But really looking forward to the first break since festie season and getting a Wii too! Looks like Metr

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah I dont know what to say about CYHSY that hasn't already been said, so i'll not waffle too much about them as such. Except that they're one of the many wonderful groups that i've picked up on after hearing good things about them on efestivals (bigsmile). Which kind of makes them special for me. It took me a few listens to really fall in love with CYHSY but when i did fall, it was from the 18th floor and i broke both my arms and shatterd both my legs. I couldn't stop l

Sharing similar interests

. I love events and celebrations and environmental festivals. Anything going, live drama and music performance to close off this year. Love being part of an organisation, doing good for others. Seeing shows and concerts. Love theatres. Miss the trill of being on stage in theatres and behind the scene. Nothing like being part of something. Love mixing, being with a group of people sharing similar interests. No age limit. All abillities acceptable.

+ note

Yes we are seeing the the wood - Darren has had a job offer and its through in black and white - money quite good, distance not bad, car allowance and they called him to see if he wanted a business trip to Rome for a few days in December - So things are looking up!! We were not going to cancel Christmas but we were going to dive into our last bit of savings and keep our fingers crossed for next year so this really is a bonus. I'm very proud of him. We may still have to get at the savings as he

Shit week.

Shit couple of weeks all told, trying to concentrate on stuff and havent really been online too much. The company I work for is shedding 20% of its workforce in march, I will know then if I am one of them, internet f**king connection is up and down more than f**king lindsey lohan, and quite frankly if one more unplanned expense comes up I will not be happy. Dont get me started on work either, I work in an industry where you have to be pedantic, but for f**ks sake people take it too far.

Monumental Efforts

Developments on the efestivals forums today saw a user by the name of Cultseeker declaring that contributing posts to a thread was a "monumental effort". The selfless act to attempt to educate the forum users was the latest in an ongoing struggle to bring light into the darkness of the depths of internet as some kind of later-day mission which has seen Cultseeker, 43 from Teeside make as many as twenty three different posts in one thread. Cultseeker, 43 from Teeside, has previously been involv

REM: Up

REM: Up I leant a friend this cd last year and never got it back. Now he claims not to have it. I think he's just stolen it. This makes me sad as its my favourite REM album and not having it in the flat leaves me feeling a little lost. Its not even an album that i play much. Normally if i want to listen to REM it'll be Lifes Rich Pageant or maybe New Adventures. Maybe even Automatic. But for some reason i keep coming back to Up if i want to convince myself that REM are a good band. Its a r

The Breeders: Pod

The Breeders: Pod I think Kim Deal may be the coolest person on earth. A while back i decided to refer to her as The Kim Deal after an argument about her and Kim Gordon (in the end we decided one was The Kim Deal and the other was The Kim Gordon but i'm digressing). If there was a Cool-Off between The Kim Deal (TKD for ease of typing) the Fonze and Johnny Depp, then TKD would walk it, probably with a few beers and a cackle. I first heard The Breeders when Cannonball came out. Bouncy bouncy

Radiohead KidA

(5 weeks and 1 day ago we had a baby called Katie, she's lovley and beautiful and is begining to smile and react to things.....) Radiohead: KidA When Radiohead started they were a normal, if a little shite, indie band with 1 or 2 (depends on who you ask) decent tunes. They got played on MTV and seemed to fit in and look odd all at the same time. Then they released The Bends and became huge to the People Who Knew. It was a cracking rock album angsty, vunerable, nonsense, gentle. They did co

Environmental concerns go a long way back

To celebrate breaking the 350 in archery yesterday with a personal best of 354 thought I'd mention these interesting factoids: The trade of yew wood to England for longbows was such that it depleted the stocks of yew over a huge area. The first documented import of yew bowstaves to England was in 1294. In 1350 there was a serious shortage, and Henry IV of England ordered his royal bowyer to enter private land and cut yew and other woods. In 1470 compulsory practice was renewed, and hazel,

"Have you ever been a part of something...

...that you thought would never end?" So it would seem whenever i think my life is getting back on track..something goes wrong. I quit my job so i could concentrate on uni. Since being back at uni i've missed most of my lectures. I thought i'd met a guy i really liked, who really like me. I went to see him,and we clicked (well i felt like we did). i've not felt that connected with someojne for a long time. But no, stupid me sleeps with him, he then stops speaking to me. Efests radio

I have been DJ-ing on efestivals radio for the past couple of weeks, the first week was very very enjoyable but it seemed I was beset with problems last week. It has since transpired that my splitter for my broadband connection was faulty, I have replaced that and it seems that my connection issues may have disappeared, however I am not massively confident. My thinking was that my connection no longer drops. So the shows then, well the listening figures didnt set the world on fire, this week wi

RIP, cuz John xx

On Tuesday morning my cousin died. For the past 18 months hes been batteling leukemia , he went through all treatments till there was nothing they could do. Last week they told us we should just now try and make his life as comfortable as possible. Altho i supose it was in the pipe line, i think everyone still kept hope a mirricle would happen. Busy Busy

Work have decided to up the anti this month - to ridiculously high productivity levels - I'm now producing each day the equivalent of what the whole office of six staff used to do in a month when i first started - hence my blog being a bit quiet. Trouble is the work load is giving me headaches now - and i had a really bad one at archery on Tuesday - nearly buckled over i did, shot through the pain though - for a low score however. Talking of archery off out to the woods this weekend to shoot f

the scores on the doors

I've just received a Comscore report for hit stats for websites that fall into the "Entertainment - music" category. I knew that eFestivals had a significantly greater amount of traffic than many other better known general music websites, but up until this point I hadn't realised by quite how much!!!! eFestivals comes in at number 35 in the list, but many of the sites listed above it aren't really in the same market - things like yahoo music, myspace, seeklyrics.com, last.fm, napster, etc. I
